Feedback: Reader objects to turning county schools into jails

Sparksville resident is highly concerned about the possibility of prisoners being in neighborhood

We would like to make a comment on this course of action. My wife and I are residents of Sparksville and are highly concerned about the county's decision to consider purchasing these campuses as possible prisons.

LCADD Citizen Corps to offer CERT training in Columbia

Columbia event is September 28, 2006; will also be offered in Liberty the following week

The Lake Cumberland Regional Citizen Corps Council will present a training program entitled, "Disaster Preparedness & Volunteering in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program at the Adair County Courthouse Annex Community Room on Thursday, September 28, 2006, at 6:00pm CT.

The presentation will be made by Kentucky's office of Homeland Security, Lake Cumberland Area Development District, and the State Fire Rescue Training (Area 14).

Obituary: Elizabeth Adams, 87, member Barnetts Creek UMC

She was the matriarch of a large, respected North Adair County family. Her direct descendants, together with step-descendants, number 77
Elizabeth Adams, 87, of the Pellyton Community in Adair County, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at 5:19am.The funeral service will be Friday, September 15, 2006, at 10:00am, with Rev. Chris Carroll, Bro. Troy Long, and Rev. Michael Lemmon the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Adair CO. Fiscal Court Reg. Meeting Sept. 12, 2006 Report

  • Jailer instructed to look into purchase of one or more community schools for minimum security facility
  • 2006 tax rates adopted; aircraft, watercraft excluded
  • Court adopts policy on fringe benefits reporting
  • Green River Animal Shelter August statistics show euthanizations outnumbering adoptions, 57-41; Shelter bill for cookstove tabled
  • Compromise adopted on payment for tree cutting in District 7
  • ROADS: More county roads getting 25 MPH speed limits. County attorney reports countywide county road limit not feasible. Roger Stephens suggests "Watch Children" signs. First readings given to taking seven roads into the county system.
  • Land returned Lindsey Wilson College. Land includes baseball field on Young Street. Lien released on Russell Heights Home.
  • Sheriff makes briefest of reports
  • Jailer reports $72,494.64 in total August billings

In Tuesday night's regular September 12, 2006, meeting, Adair County Fiscal Court meeting, Adair County Regional Jailer William "Bug" Knight was instructed to look into the possibility of purchasing one or more of the county schools to expand the minimum security capacity of the Adair County Regional Jail.

No. 7 in nation Columbia team defeats No. 2 team in action last night at Lindsey Park; LWC plays next as in KELME Classic at Lindsey Wilson Park in Columbia, KY, this weekend
