Obituary: Ann Overstreet, 66, member Egypt Christian Church

Ann Overstreet was a health provider whose career spanned many years at two Columbia institutions, Westlake Hospital and Summit Manor Nursing Home

Ann Overstreet, 66, 107 Montgomery Street, Columbia, KY died Monday, August 21, 2006 at 9:10am, atTaylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 23, 2006, at 11:00am CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Hugh Withers officiating. Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery, Liberty RD, Columbia, KY.

Sidewalk for LWC Opening Day: Donnie Rowe, Mayor Bell



2006-08-21 - Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY - Photo CM staff. City Street Department Director Donnie Rowe and Columbia Mayor Pat Bell were checking the seeding along the new Lindsey Wilson Street sidewalk, finished in time for student use opening day, Monday, August 21, 2006. Rowe's crew, including Tim Smith and Roger Coffey, with jail worker help, were finishing the reseeding along the walk when the Mayor stopped by. The new sidewalk runs from Helen Flatt Drive to Fairgrounds Street. It is part of the most ambitious sidewalk program in Columbia history. "You know," Mayor Bell said, "Fairgrounds Street will one day be the main entrance to Lindsey, and the City wants to do its part to make the approach as attractive as possible." For his part, Rowe said that he is happy that the sidewalk building is going so well, and added that he was happy to have the sidewalk ready for Lindsey."

Obituary: Bobby Janes, 62, formerly of Adair County, dies in TN

His mother, Thyra Crouch Janes, well remembered in the Columbia area, lives in Summit, IL, today. She now grieves the loss of the second of her two sons to die out of season. Bobby Janes' funeral was in Cookeville, TN. His mother said that his remains will be returned to Union Cemetery in Adair County.

Robert (Bobby) Janes, 62, Cookeville, TN, died Friday, August 18, 2006, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in Nashville, TN.

Whitfield to make major announcement at Fugitte Science Center

Kentucky Congressman Ed Whitfield will be at Lindsey Wilson College at noon CT on Tuesday, August 22, 2006, to make a major announcement.

Whitfield will make the announcement outside of the Fugitte Science Center's Cranmer Drive entrance. Following Whitfield's presentation, a public reception will be held in the Fugitte Science Center's lower-level lobby.

Open HOUSE at ACES moved to Sunday afternoon

Principal Harmon says extra time will give teachers more time to make final preparations in their rooms
Our Open House at ACES will be Sunday, August 27 at 2:00pm until 4:00pm CT, instead of Thursday, August 24.

Meece is on trial for the murder of Beth Wellnitz, Dr. Joseph Wellnitz, and Dennis Wellnitz in their home next to the Wellnitz Veterinary Clinic in 1993.

Heavier court docket may squeeze downtown parking today

If you have other business on the Square today, you may want to get to town early. Adair Circuit and District Courts have a total of 79 cases on the docket today.

The cases range from court appearance for Christopher Benham, to two preliminary hearings for two of the principals, in the Breeding "Doing Donuts Affair." The latter are among 78 items on the Adair District Court schedule.

Spotlights: 3 big schools events include Wares Fair at LWC

Monday, August 21, 2006: Open House for all John Adair Intermediate School students and parents will be Monday, August 21, from 4:00 to 6:00pm CT. If possible, we would like for 3rd graders to come at 4:00pm CT, and 4th and 5th graders to come at 5:00pm CT. However, if your schedule does not allow this, please feel free to come at any time between the hours of 4:00-6:00pm CT. Class schedules will not be handed out until August 24, 2006, the first day of school. An announcement will be made when homeroom assignments are posted. A supplies list is posted at the school and local stores.

Monday, August 21, 2006: Adair County Middle School will be having Open House on Monday, August 21, from 4:00-7:00. Schedules and supply lists will be available at this time also. The faculty/staff at ACMS will need to be at the school at 2:00pm CT, August 21, 2006, for a faculty/staff meeting and a potluck lunch. -Alma Rich, Principal, Adair County Middle School, 322 General John Adair Dr., Columbia 42728.

Monday, August 21, 2006. 6:00pm-8:00pm. Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce and Lindsey Wilson College present Wares Fair in Biggers Sports Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College. The event allows local Chamber Members to show Lindsey Wilson College students what services and goods are available from local businesses. Around 600 students are expected to attend.
