Adair General Election 2006: Ballot positions determined today for city races

Drawings for positions on the ballot for City of Columbia and Soil Conservation races were determined today, Thursday, August 10, 2006, at 2:00pm CT, in the office of Adair County Court Clerk Ann Melton.

Adair WWII Navy veteran visits Battleship Texas



2006-08-10 - Battleship USS Texas - Photo by Mitchell McKinley. Adair County World War II Navy veteran L.G. "Peanut" McKinley was a recent visitor to the USS Texas, La Porte, Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico. The battleship is the only one to serve in both World War I and World War II. McKinley served in the Navy in the South Pacific, and was able to recall, for his son, much of the nomenclature for the components of the ship. The ship is now part of the Texas Navy. McKinley is active in local veterans affairs, including membership in Columba VFW Post 6097.

Sheriff makes arrest in alleged scam; also in scrap iron theft

Russell Springs pair located in Russell County and arrested; in separate case, two Columbia men charged with theft of scrap iron from Don Yates, East 80, Columbia, KY

Adair County Sheriff Steve Cheatham has located two individuals involved in the alleged tree trimming scam which took place last Thursday on Liberty Road.

The James N. Gray Company of Lexington, Ky., and its associated foundation take great pride in their role in the engineering and construction of the John B. Begley Chapel on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College.

Accordingly, Lois Gray, chairman and CEO of the James N. Gray Company, established The Julia Franklin and C.C. Howard Lecture and Performance Series in memory of her parents.

Columbia Police make burglary, theft arrests early this morning

A traffic stop early Thursday morning, August 10, 2006, inside the city limits of Columbia, KY, has resulted in the arrest of two Adair County men on theft and burglary charges.

Columbia City Police officers Brad Scholl and Kevin Atwood arrested Eric Dial, 21, who was charged with Burglary 3rd degree, theft by unlawful taking over $300, and rear license plate not illuminated. Also arrested was Timothy Dial, 24, who was also charged with burglary 3rd degree and theft by unlawful taking over $300.Both men were lodged in the Adair County Regiional Jail, Columbia, KY.

Somerset closer to landing Homeland Security research lab

Project has endorsement of Columbia City Council, Adair Fiscal Court; leaders say the project could help Adair County economy. Somerset one of 14 national finalists, Kentucky one of 11 states vying for site

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Harold "Hal" Rogers announced today that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has selected Pulaski County, Kentucky as one of fourteen nationwide finalists for location and construction of a new National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).
The City of Columbia authorized Mayor Patrick R. Bell to send a letter of support for the project, and Adair Fiscal Court authorized Judge Jerry Vaughan to do the same on their behalf. Both leaders said the project would help the local economy. -Ed., ColumbiaMagazine.com
Proposed site is 10 milies northeast of Somerset

The Pulaski County site, located approximately ten miles northeast of Somerset, received high marks from an initial DHS review committee and now proceeds to the next phase of this ongoing competition.

Next Adair Circuit, District Court sessions August 14, 2006

Update on Doing Donuts Affair cases, planned site links to docket announcement

The next cases on the dockets in Adair Circuit Court and Adair District Court are scheduled for Monday, August 14, 2006. On that date, there is one case on the Circuit Court Docket and 64 set for Adair District Court.

In the Breeding Doing Donuts Affair, Jason Burkett and Joey Burris, both pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, 4th, (no visible injury). They were arraigned Wednesday, August 9, 2006. Pre-trial hearings in the cases are set for September 6, 2006.
