Adair General Election 2006: deadline to file passed at 4 p.m.

Senior Councillor Larry Marshall is not seeking re-election. Chris Watts, Greg Willis have no opposition; John Arnold becomes ninth City Council candidate. Place for write-in will be on ballot along with two SCD Supervisor candidates, Danny Wilkinson and Jason Ed Grider; Arnold Mayse does not seek re-election.
Two incumbent school board members, Vice Chairman Greg Willis and Member Chris Watts will have no opposition. No one filed against either board member when the filing deadline came at 4:00pm CT, Tuesday, August 8, 2006.

But there was a big disappointment for many when perhaps the most respected City Council member ever, Larry Marshall, did not file for another term.

Entrance to Burkesville ST was not supposed to be here



2006-08-08 - Burkesville ST at Frazier AVE, Columbia, KY - Photo CM Mag. The new entrance to Burkesville Street was not originally in the plans. At the start, the access was to have been in back of the two residences. Now, the Columbia City Council is considering making Frazier Avenue, just beyond the red pickup on the right, two-way. But with no better visibility over the crest of the hill for southboud traffic, and fast moving northbound traffic, along with the the steep new entrance to Burkesville ST for the houses on the right, will a two-way Frazier Avenue toward Greensburg ST be safe? At present, traffic is one way off Burkesville into Frazier Avenue.

April L. Burton Thurman, 25, 1169 Millerfield Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006, at 2:07pm, at Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville, KY, after an illness.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 9, 2006, 10:00am CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. David Coffey the officiating clergy.

Event: Adair CO Project Development Board meets at 5:00pm, CT

Design of new building likely to be major highlight of meeting

The Adair County Project Development Board (PDB) will have a special called meeting tonight, Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 5:00 p.m. in the basement of the Adair County Annex Building.

The meeting is open to the public. According to a spokesperson for DLZ Kentucky, Inc., the architects, the design of the Justice Center will be a major topic at the meeting.

Columbia City Council regular August 7, 2006 report

Agenda brief, but Mayor announces a significant new housing initiative; Council hears of possible airport expansion, need for paid airport manager.

In last night's City Council meeting, Mayor Pat Bell announced a housing initiative which may mean better homes for low and middle income families in Columbia, KY.

The mayor said that Columbia Affordable Housing, Inc, has been formed by a spin-off group from the Columbia Housing Authority.
