LETTER: Dr. Morris Grubbs remembers Dr. Kemper

I send my condolences to the Campbellsville University community for the loss of one of the most gifted teachers I have known. Beth Kemper and I were classmates in the English master's program at WKU in the late '80s and then again in the doctoral program at UK in the early '90s.

Adair Countians trained to handle Federal funds

Obituary: Preston Gilbert, 68, dies in Batavia, OH

He was a member of Bloomington Chapel Brethren in Christ Church, a truck driver, and a Mason

Preston "Shorty" Gilbert age 68 years of 187 Gilbert Road, Glensfork, Ky. passed away Friday, July 21, 2006 at 5:33 P. M. at Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia, Ohio

The funeral service will be Friday, July 28, 2006 at 1:00pm CT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster and Bro. Jim Hurt the officiating clergy. Masonic rites will be conducted Thursday night at 7:00 P. M. at the funeral home.

PRIDE: $7,685 awarded for environmental education in Adair

Adair County High School, CWC, and Lindsey Wilson receive grants; representatives take training in management of Federal funds

SOMERSET, KY - Almost 3,000 students in Adair County will benefit from $7,685 in PRIDE Environmental Education Grants during the upcoming school year.

Adair County High School and Colonel William E. Casey Elemtary School will share a grant in the amount of $2,685. The schools will reconstruct a wetland on their campus, which will be used by 2,680 students in the first year, according to the schools' grant application.
Lindsey Wilson College will use its grant for $5,000 to construct a natural wetland. The college expects 125 students to benefit from the wetland this year.

Adair County School Board Report July 20, 2006

July meeting highlights: A wonderful report on Colonel William Casey Elementary School's successful Camp Invention. Fact-packed report on Superintendent Treece's China Trip,.Approval to change a job opening title at CWC. Approval to allow Mr. Treece to make an application for an interest-free technology loan. Items added just before the meeting: Approve a lease-purchase agreement for 111 new computers, approve a waiver of an English credit requirement.

School will open on time, Superintendent Darrell Treece told the Adair County Board of Education at its regular monthly session, Thursday, July 20, 2006.

"Barring an unforeseen event," he said, "we'll be ready to open on August 10, 2006."

LETTER: Beth Kemper's teacher remembers her student

One of Beth Kemper's teachers, Carol Parker, writes to correct one fact and to share the good news of Beth's contributions

Beth graduated from Logan County High School, not Russellville High School. As one of her teachers, I can add that Beth had the same sweet attitude and desire to succeed when she was a high school student.

We missed a great story by Amy WIlson in the Lexington Herald about the July 4th in Adair County. It's about the one-time community of Dirigo, Independence Ridge, beautiful countryside, Gary Furkins, Lee Sanders, Cherokee and what used to be.
