Obituary: Glenna Rooks, 71

Mrs. Rooks was retired from the Fruit of the Loom

Glenna Rooks, 71, 1194 Rooks Denton Road, Columbia, KY passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2006 At 8:10am, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY.

The funeral service will be Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 11:00am CT, at Stotts- Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Goff the officiating clergy.

Colonel William Casey kids in Summer Fun Camp



2006-07-18 - Columbia, KY - Photo Dana Harmon. SUMMER FUN AT CAMP CASEY: These Colonel William Casey Elementary School kids took part in Summer Fun Camp durng the week of July 10-14, 2006. They made a music video, acted in skits, and learned about puppetry. Their teachers were Paula Garrison and Dan Harmon, who were assisted by the Creative Ministries Team from Columbia Baptist Church.

Obituary: Isaiah "Pete" Burton, 90, Veteran, Mason

Isaiah "Pete" Burton, age 90, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2006 in Glasgow. He was a painter in Adair County, the son of Frank and Dona Smith Burton, a US Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of Hood Masonic Lodge 839.

Grissom Funeral Home services are scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at 10 a.m. with visitation beginning at 5 p.m. this evening, and Masonic services at 7 p.m. this evening with Hood Lodge 839 in charge.

The CKTS (Central Kentucky Tennis Series) will be holding a tennis tournament on July 29 and 30, 2006, in Columbia Kentucky.

The tournament will be played at Lindsey Wilson College, the Columbia Fairgrounds and the Adair County High School.

Adair 9-10 year old girls in State semi-finals tonight

Girls trounce East Ridge 11-1 in short order 10 rule win in 4th inning, performing at peak in withering summer heat

Adair County's 9-10 year old girls are headed into the semi-finals in the SoftballLittle League State Tournament in London, KY.

On Monday, July 17, 2006, Adair County played East Ridge in 95-100 degree weather and was victorious with a score of 11-1 with the 10 run rule going into affect in the 4th.

They will play Russell-Flatwoods onTuesday night, July 18, 2006 at 6:00pm CT.

Center partners with Midway to offer Homeland Security degree

Midway College and The Center for Rural Development have formed a partnership to provide one of the first, if not the first, bachelor degree programs in homeland security in the nation. Midway's Homeland Security Assessment degree program will address homeland security education and training from a business management perspective, with an emphasis on assessment.

Dr. William Drake, President of Midway College, was on hand at The Center to make the official announcement alongside Lonnie Lawson, President and CEO of The Center for Rural Development, and Bob Hammonds, State Director of Homeland Security Initiatives for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).

Sports: Pink Ladies win on 10-run rule to stay alive in State

The Adair County Pink Ladies lost to North Laurel on opening day of the State Tournament Saturday, but came out fighting in Sunday's game with Winchester, winning by 10 run rule in the 5th.
