Robert writes, "Between Mt. Sterling and Morehead, Kentucky, there's an exit off Interstate 64 for 'Farmers Sharkey'. It is here, in this small community, that the home for a collection of antiques resides. It's been a number of years since this photo was taken, and I'm not sure if this place is still around. When I was there I absolutely had a blast trying to compose photos. I want to revisit...someday!"

Letter: Why MY corner of Adair County is BEST

Katelynn M. Molesky writes:

I guess it's my turn to jump on the bandwagon.

I'd say my little corner of the county is the best because it's just close enough to town for a quick Walmart trip here and there, but far enough that I can hide away from it all.

Out here in the Montpelier area, there's a lot to see by just driving down the back roads. There's farms full of cattle, old houses and barns being reclaimed by nature, and of course lots of houses of all shapes, sizes, and conditions. Not to mention all the trees that change color in the fall or grow all lush and green by the mid-spring to summer months.

Sure, life in town is great - it's all right there and all your neighbors are close together. But out here in the woods, you can live your life without worrying about what everybody else thinks.

And thats why there's no doubt in my mind that my corner of Adair County beats the rest!

Wilderness Medical Rescue at Pikes Ridge

From Chief Chris Taylor
Executive Director Fire-Rescue-EMS/Campbellsville Fire-Rescue

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of a wilderness medical emergency in a climbing deer stand in remote area of Pikes Ridge Wildlife Management Area at 8:55amET on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

911 staff was able to obtain an accurate last known position GPS location relayed to command staff. The on-duty crew remaining at HQ started our mapping program and by the time responders arrived on the scene the scene was mapped out. Due to the remote area, we had crews access via watercraft, SXS and 4X4. Boat crews deployed rope rescue equipment and EMS equipment. A KFW officer arrived at the patient along with initial recon teams. The victim was evaluated by EMS personnel in the remote area and stabilized. The patient was then transferred via an SXS unit to the medic unit. The patient was transferred to Taylor Regional Hospital in stable condition.

Chief Taylor says, "This incident is a prime example of all agencies working together seamlessly in a remote wilderness environment for a positive outcome for the patient."

Basketball: Indians 1-1 so far in Holiday Classic

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

On Friday, December 19, 2025 the Adair County Indians were defeated by Tates Creek Commodores 115-89 in the opening round of the Berea Holiday Classic.

Tates Creek shot 51% from three, which on their 57 attempts equated to 29 makes, and the Commodores shot just slightly better than 55% from the floor. However, a large majority of their field goals were from deep. Adair County shot 51% from the floor and 42% from three, but made just 8 threes. Adair County was outscored by a staggering 63 points from three point range, a fatal blow in almost any basketball contest.

In their second game of the Holiday Classic, on Saturday, December 20, the Adair County Indians bounced back to defeated the Eagles of Madison Southern (6-2) 72-67. The team was led in scoring by seniors Landon Blakey and Tylin George, with 26 and 24 respectively. Senior Dawson Gilbert and sophomore John Shehan also scored in double figures, with 12 and 10 points. Those four were the only players for the Tribe to score. Blakey posted a double-double by leading the team in rebounds, with 11, followed by Shehan with eight, and George with six.

The Indians shot 46% from the floor and 28% from three point range against Madison Southern. All in all, the Indians were able to grind out a win in a close game against a team playing on their home floor, something they will undoubtedly need to do again before this season is over.

Adair County will play their final game in the Berea Holiday Classic against Central High School (Louisville) at 1pmCT on Sunday, December 21, 2025, back at Berea Community High School, 1 Pirate Pkwy, Berea, KY
