From Trooper Jonathan Houk

As Labor Day weekend approaches, Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 will join law enforcement agencies across the country in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort). This traffic safety initiative is happening August 29 through September 1 and is focused on keeping Kentucky's roadways safe during a major travel holiday.

Throughout the Labor Day weekend, troopers will increase patrols on highways and interstates, with special attention given to impaired driving, speeding, distracted driving and failure to wear seatbelts. The goal is simple: reduce crashes and save lives.

"Labor Day is a time for family, friends and celebration, which means thousands will be using Kentucky roadways" said Captain Jennifer Sandlin. "Our troopers will be working hard to ensure everyone gets to and from their destinations safely. We urge drivers to make smart choices, avoid distractions and never get behind the wheel if they've been drinking."

KSP offers these safety reminders for drivers this Labor Day:

Hunting seasons opening soon for many game species

Frankfort, KY - Cooler August temperatures have many people thinking about shorter days, crisp, cool mornings and changing leaves - all signs of fall and the hunting opportunities it brings across Kentucky.

Before going afield, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources encourages hunters to reference the 2025-2026 Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide, available online and at vendors, to update themselves on new season dates and regulations. New regulations are in effect for deer, bear, dove and waterfowl hunting, in addition to changes on some public lands.

Kentucky's archery deer season opens September 6, 2025, with crossbow season opening two weeks later, on September 20. Both seasons close January 19, 2026. New for 2025 is an extended youth-only modern gun season. Expanded to nine days from two, the season runs October 11-19, 2025. The most popular fall hunting opportunity is the modern gun season, November 8-23, 2025.
