Kentucky businesses receive grants to secure food supply chain

From Madison Pergrem

Frankfort, KY - More than $2 million in grants was awarded recently to 27 Kentucky agricultural businesses to build resilience in the middle of the supply chain and strengthen local and regional food systems, Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell announced on Aug. 11, 2025.

Among the recipients was Penn's Country Hams in Campbellsville, which was awarded $37,569.25 for an uncapping machine, extractor, filter, wax separator and bottling equipment.

This first set of awarded grants is a portion of the $8.6 awarded to the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA) through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program. USDA awarded an overall $420 million across the nation for the program, which is aimed to build resilience in the middle of the food supply chain, to provide more and better markets to small farms and food businesses, to support the development of value-added products for consumers, and to provide fair prices, fair wages, and new and safe job opportunities.

Just listening to my radio tho I be wet down to my soak-dripping socks but that is not on my list - not bothering me as of yet.

Kim Parson, Dolores Rogers' daughter, wrote to ask if Columbia Magazine would help spread the word about a petition drive related to the death of her brother, Adair County native Todd Parson, who was killed in an accident last year on a stretch of Bluegrass Parkway without lane barriers.

This petition will go to state leaders requesting that the 13-mile stretch of road have these added, saving lives. Todd has many friends in Adair County that would likely support this effort. Click here to sign the petition: www.change.org (Note: Link updated).
