Carol Perkins: My Purse Previous Column: The Piano By Carol Perkins Guy and I often go to Sam's Club for lunch because we can buy two hot dogs, a large piece of pepperoni pizza, and two drinks for $5. Add a large cup of vanilla yogurt for around a dollar, and the drive was worth the effort. Are we fugal? No, it's just that the food is good. Obviously, we shop while we're there, buying bulk items we won't use in a year. We have enough ketchup for a food truck on Pumpkin Festival Day. As we got out of Guy's truck to go into Sam's last week, I reached for my purse. "What are you going to do with that?" Guy asked. "Since when have you bought anything when I'm with you?" he said sarcastically. He has a point. Why take my purse when he's around? KSP: Fatal Collision on Lone Valley Road in Taylor Co From Trooper Jonathan Houk Campbellsville, KY - Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 15 Troopers responded to a two-vehicle injury collision at the intersection of Lone Valley Road and Robin Road in Taylor County that occurred at 7:48amET on August 8, 2025. The preliminary investigation revealed that Wesley Burton, 23, of Campbellsville, was traveling south on Lone Valley Road in a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. Mr. Burton attempted to make a left turn onto Robin Road. Due to limited visibility created by a sharp curve at the intersection, Mr. Burton failed to see an oncoming 2024 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by James Austin, 32, of Campbellsville, traveling north. The vehicles collided in a head-on manner on Lone Valley Road. James Austin was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Taylor County Coroner. Wesley Burton was not injured during the collision. Leroy Knifley, 92, Taylor County, KY Leroy Knifley of Campbellsville, son of the late Gilbert Knifley and Cecil Bryant Knifley, was born October 6, 1932 in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 5:39 P.M., Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in Campbellsville. Age: 92 He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Christian Church. Leroy loved his Lord and family. He enjoyed working and worked every day as a farmer. Leroy was successful with everything he did. Travel: Photographs at the Shaker Village Craft Fair CM contributing photographer Robert Ellis made another trek to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill on Saturday, August 2, 2025, for their annual Craft Show. Robert has participated as a vendor in the show for many years, selling his unique wooden creations, but this year he was there with his camera, practicing his version of Country Street Photography. Robert says, "This was my third trip to Shaker Village this year. I enjoyed meeting up with fellow photographer Pen Waggener of CM. We talked photography, camera gear and walked around exploring photographic opportunities." New website, initiatives to protect Kentuckians from scammers From Scottie Ellis/Kristin Voskuhl Frankfort, KY - On Thursday, August 7, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Team Kentucky has launched a new website, StopScams.ky.gov, and other initiatives to further help protect Kentuckians from scams. The efforts build on Gov. Beshear's work as Attorney General and focus on preventing scams through awareness, reporting and education. "Scams are mean and cruel, and they cost Kentuckians of all ages their hard-earned savings that should be going toward rent, groceries, retirement and more," said Gov. Beshear. "While we've made progress in stopping scammers, a 2024 FBI report showed Kentuckians are losing more than $74 million each year to online scammers - something we won't tolerate. Through this new website, educational events and more, we're going to help protect Kentuckians by equipping them with the tools they need to stay safe." The new website, StopScams.ky.gov, will serve as a one-stop resource on how to spot scams, ways to report and resources for recovering what was lost should someone fall victim. The website also offers Kentuckians the option to sign up for scam alerts through email or text message, offering direct updates on the latest emerging scams.
