Letter: Find proper homes for animals

From a Concerned Reader (name and contact info on file):
Please whoever is dropping kittens off at East 80 and Coffey Hole do the right thing and try and find proper homes for these poor animals. By the time they are making it to peoples' homes, they are starved and in poor condition.

Do the right thing and have your pet spayed or neutered. And if you can't afford these pets, you may want to not get one at all, because caring for a pet is not an overnight job. And understand they should live a long a mostly healthy life.

Letter: Keeping up with boil water advisories

Bryan New writes:
How does one keep up with the constant boil water advisories that seem to come out more often than the weather changing?
The easy answer is to read Columbia Magazine, because we post them as quickly as we hear about them! However, we've been trying to find out whether there really is an increase in advisories, and the data remains unconclusive.

In the days before the internet, advisories were often only noticed by those directly affected, who were contacted with an old-fashioned paper flyer on their front door. These days, you hear about all the advisories that are issued, whether they affect you or not, which could be leading to a base rate fallacy.
