Old Concord Community Church Food Pantry distribution From Crystal Dillingham Old Concord Community Church has received its first delivery for our new Food Pantry. Our first distribution of food is scheduled for 9amCT to 11amCT on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Food will be distributed to those needing food on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last. Information needed to participate is name, address, and number of people in household. While we are purchasing food for distribution, we also gladly accept donations of non-perishable food items and unopened personal hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, and toothpaste from the public. Columbia's Little Free Library By Trey Stephens City of Columbia | Assistant to the Mayor Have you ever passed the wooden box full of books next to City Hall and wondered what it was? well- this is Columbia's Little Free Library. The Little Free Library is a worldwide organization based in Minnesota with over 200,000 locations in 120 countries spread out over all 7 continents. The premise of a Little Free Library is that residents will stop by to pick up a new book and leave a book they have already read for the next person. The City of Columbia is the steward of Little Free Library #162137, which has been operating for over 2 years. Columbia's Little Free Library is sorted into two categories, with both a children's and adult library. It is presently curated by Jada Atwood, the City of Columbia Finance Officer. The Little Free Library in Columbia has been successful, and it is estimated that over 1000 books run through the network of Columbia's Little Free Library every year. So, if you are an avid reader, just a casual page turner, or have a child that is learning how to read, please feel free to stop by the Columbia Little Free Library. Second annual KSP Youth Academy Program underway From Sherry Bray Frankfort, KY - On July 28, 2025, Gov. Andy Beshear marked the beginning of the second annual Kentucky State Police (KSP) Youth Academy Program, aimed at introducing teenagers to the foundational principles of law enforcement. The program is designed to help teens explore career opportunities in policing while building confidence, leadership and teamwork. "Building relationships between law enforcement and young Kentuckians is the best way to build trust in law enforcement while recruiting and preparing tomorrow's brave first responders," Gov. Beshear said. "This program will allow us to continue building that trust, while also creating a safer Kentucky for all our people." The immersive, week-long program is held at Trooper Island Camp on Dale Hollow Lake and provides 16- and 17-year-olds with an opportunity to learn directly from state troopers, detectives, instructors and support staff. Throughout the week, cadets engage in physical training, classroom instruction and hands-on activities that reflect real-life responsibilities of law enforcement professionals. ACSO: Two arrested on Snake Creek Road On Monday, July 28, 2025, Adair County Deputy Sheriff's Deputies went to 144 Snake Creek Road to make contact with a wanted fugitive out of Indiana. Deputies received permission to search the residence and located the fugitive in the basement of the home. While making contact with the fugitive, deputies noticed several items of drug paraphernalia laying on a bed and a plastic baggy laying beside bed on dresser that contained suspected methamphetamine.
