TJRH teams up with Buckle Up for Life on car seat safety

From Stacey Biggs

Glasgow, KY - What if there was a way to prevent a leading cause of childhood death, but three out of four of us were doing it wrong?

Together, T.J. Regional Health and Buckle Up for Life, the national car seat safety program from Toyota and Cincinnati Children's, are sharing child passenger safety education with south central Kentucky families. The program's trained specialists will work closely with families and caregivers to educate them about all aspects of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts. Families in need will be matched with certified child passenger safety technicians to learn how to install them properly.

"We know that proper use of car seats and booster seats can mean the difference between life and death in a crash," said Gloria Del Castillo, child passenger safety expert at Cincinnati Children's and senior specialist of community engagement for Buckle Up for Life. "That's why Buckle Up for Life is so committed to our work with T.J. Regional Health to teach parents, caregivers and children in this area about the proper use of car seats and provide free seats to families in need."

This program will help enable the T.J. Community Mission Foundation to provide even more car seats through their T.J. Sweet Seats Car Seat Program. This program is dedicated to ensuring the safety of children in this community. The primary goal is to provide high-quality car seats to families in need, promoting safe transportation practices for young passengers. By partnering with local organizations and first responders, TJCMF aims to educate caregivers on the proper installation and use of car seats, reducing the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Adair Co. FFA takes 1st at State Crop Scouting Contest!

From Gabby Barnes
ACHS Agriculture Educator/FFA Advisor

The Adair County FFA has earned First Place in the State Crop Scouting Contest! Team members were Ethan Wooten, Addie Baker, Lane Kelsay, Braxton Irvin, and Hudson Hancock. The team spent weeks preparing for the contest over the summer, and then travelled to the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton, Kentucky, on July 24, 2025, in order to participate in the contest.

The Crop Scouting Contest required students to illustrate a wide expanse of knowledge related to row crop production and agronomy. They worked as a team in order to determine the growth stages of corn and soybean crops, calculate populations and estimate yield in different fields, identify common agronomic disorders, connect soil characteristics with nutrient availability, perform calculations related to sprayer calibration, determine causes of problems within tobacco crops, and identify common pests and their management methods.

The team worked extremely hard to achieve such a high level of success, and will be representing the state of Kentucky at the national level in Iowa this fall.
