Letter: Remembering Ozzy Osbourne and Hulk Hogan

Pam Capozziello writes:
It's been a rough few days for the entertainment industry and for all the fans these two icons had. I grew up with these two back in the 1970's and they are the stuff that we will never forget. They both left a tremendous impact on both the music world and the wrestling community. Icons for sure.

There was much more to these two than their on screen persona, they were kind generous humans and Hulk spoke his heart when standing with President Trump during his campaign and Ozzy was known to donate 10,000 dollars to kids for music instruments ... Sending prayers to both Families of Ozzy and Hulk and thinking them for the memories! -- Pam

Paint the Town Thank you

From City of Columbia

The City of Columbia would like to thank everyone for an incredible Paint the Town event! The City was blessed to have the largest attendance of painters in the six years of having the event. We also added several food trucks on the Square for the first time.

A special thank you goes out to the Columbia Police Department who did traffic control, and to the Columbia-Adair County Fire Department for bringing a fire truck to display as well as giving items away.

This event, as well as every other event that the City has, would not be possible without community engagement, so thank you to all that participated this year and be on the lookout for news about more upcoming events, including our Back to School event, beginning at 11amCT on August 12, 2025, at the City Park on Fairgrounds Street.

Carol Perkins: Forever and Ever, Amen

Previous Column: Ladies Day Out

By Carol Perkins

Have you ever thought about the relationship between humans and the weather? It is a thread that weaves us together.

In the winter, our greeting may be, "Boy, it sure is cold."

In the spring, "This weather is a killer on my allergies."

Summer brings, "I don't remember it being this hot," and winter generates tales of woolly worms and snow. Just as history repeats itself, so does the weather.

LWU: Emma Couch broadens her academic horizons in Europe

From Duane Bonifer

Lindsey Wilson University student Emma Couch '27 got to see and study part of Europe this summer. Couch started her summer in Grantham, England, where she was one of 15 Lindsey Wilson students selected to take part in an immersive study-abroad program at Harlaxton College. During their nine days there, the Lindsey Wilson students visited the historic cities of London, Lincoln, York and Cambridge while based at Harlaxton.

Then Couch headed south to study for six weeks in a study-abroad program at the University of Madrid. Couch took a course on the history of the Spanish capital as well as a Spanish course.

"It's a beautiful city. It was just amazing," said Couch, who is a psychology and Spanish double major. "I don't know how else to put it. It was just wonderful."

It was the first time that Couch, who is a Kentucky native, traveled outside of the United States.

ACPL and GHRC Paint the Town

By Mike Watson

The Adair County Public Library and the Adair Genealogy & History Research Center were well-represented in downtown Columbia for the Paint the Town event on Thursday, July 25, 2025.

Serena Corbin, local author and artist, who is on staff at the Research Center, and Jazmyn Burton, of the main library, spent much of the day in the blistering heat, working on displays for our facilities. Here are a few photos of their art during the process and finished products.

Serena also came out very early in the morning to artistically represent Synergy and a special in front of Moore's Pool Room emphasizing "Best burger in town", SKI, and Lance Burton, world famous magician!
