Road trip to St. Louis, home of the Arch By Josh Brockman The Gateway Arch National Park in St. Louis is a neat place to go - just five hours from Columbia. It makes for an easy weekend road trip. It was a national monument until 2018 and then it got its designation as a National Park. We are about half way to visiting all 63 national parks in America. There are two additional national parks in U.S. territories that we will be hoping to visit as well. We will eventually get them knocked off one at a time but we really enjoying the hiking and adventures. 2025-07-23 11:31:12 | Comments | Printable version
Maulden wins FAFSA completion scholarship From Crystal Dempsey-Gillum Frankfort, KY - Six Kentucky students and four high schools won $500 scholarships from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) for participating in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) scholarship drawings this spring, including William Maulden of Adair County. The FAFSA is the form students must file to find out if they qualify for federal and state student aid. "Students who file the FAFSA are taking an important step to continue their education after high school," said Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman. "We salute parents, teachers, school staff and community partners who encourage Kentuckians to complete the FAFSA as they prepare for their future." The challenge was open to all certified public and private high schools in the state and their students. Schools were awarded $500 for having the highest FAFSA completion rates in each of the four categories. Six students also won scholarships in the FAFSA Completion Scholarship Drawing and the FAFSA Fun Day Scholarship Drawing, each earning a $500 scholarship. Trapping and relocating a troublesome visitor By Jane Smith I've been trying to catch this little critter for over a month. I love watching turkeys stroll through my yard and the little deer that comes to the head of the woods every week or so to say hello... the little bunny that is usually eating breakfast when I look out my window of the morning as I pour my first cup of coffee. But this little fellow has woke me up more than once from a dead sleep creating havoc on the back porch. I had decided Saturday it was too smart for the live trap and I was just going to give up. I was tired Saturday and didn't put the trap up.
