ACHS sports update Indians vs Cardinals By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer In their matchup against the Lady Cardinals, the Lady Indians fell 54-38 Friday night. The team battled hard the entire night and fought Taylor County to a tied score at the half. The ACHS Boys Basketball defeated Taylor County with a score of 87-55. The team shot out of a cannon early, jumping to a 25-4 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. The Cardinals would battle back to a 14 point halftime deficit, but were ultimately no match for Adair County in the second half. Rachel Shields, 61, Burkesville, KY (1963-2024) Rachel N. (Morales) Shields of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2024 at the Medical Center in Albany, Kentucky, having attained the age of 61, years, 3 months and 8 days. She was born on Tuesday, August 27, 1963 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Conzuelo Morales. She was of the Catholic faith, worked as an entrepreneur and loved making jewelry, crafting, gardening, and thrifting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Roger Darrell Shields, whom she wed on Monday, July 26, 1999, maternal grandparents, Jose & June (Williams) Morales, and uncles, Joseph Morales and Donny Morales. Parade winners in Columbia's Traditional Christmas By Linda Waggener It was a beautiful parade! The weather cooperated by warming up into the forties, just enough that it was bearable to be outside and catch the candies thrown into the crowds. Christmas carols were playing on the new Adair County Courthouse chimes, and everybody was able to watch the floats, cars, trucks, band first responders and horses make the two mile journey from the industrial Park to the public Square, around the Courthouse and out Burkesville Street to disband. Judges made the decisions that the winners in the hometown floats were: first place Columbia Church of Christ; second place Mid-State Ready Mix; third place Free Union Separate Baptist Church; fourth place TJ Health Columbia; and fifth place TCRECC. Those who work the annual Columbia Adair Chamber of Commerce parade, directly and indirectly, get lots of thanks for volunteering for the intense communications, scheduling, gathering prizes, and giving the signal to go! Jackie Hudson, 95, Green County, KY (1928-2024) Jacqueline "Jackie" McGinnis Hudson of Greensburg, Kentucky, daughter of the late Aubrey Euphrates McGinnis, Sr. and Leland Frances Blevins McGinnis, was born on Monday, December 31, 1928 in Michigan. She was 95 years, 11 months, and 7 days of age. She had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She retired after 37 years as a folding inspector for Fruit of the Loom, Inc, but her greatest job, that brought her the most joy, was caring for her great-grandchildren.
