New Adair County School Superintendent announced The Adair County School Board voted unanimously to contract with Jason Faulkner to be the new District Superintendent in a special called meeting Wednesday, June 7, 2023. The contract is for $136,000 per year for four years beginning July 1, 2023 and continuing through June 30, 2027. He introduced himself and his family. Faulkner is an educator from London, Laurel County, KY. He attended the meeting with his wife, their two children along with his mother and father. Annual Chamber banquet held at LWC June 6, 2023 The 2023 Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce banquet was held Tuesday, June 6th at Cranmer Dining Center on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College. Ellen Zornes, Executive Director, welcomed a crowd of just under 170 people to the annual event. The guest speaker was native son Barry Dunn, the President and CEO Kosair for Kids, introduced by longtime friend and Kosair board member Robert Flowers. Kentucky Mesonet at WKU adds station in Russell Co. Ono, KY - The Kentucky Mesonet at WKU continues to grow its network of automated stations across the Commonwealth. On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, the ribbon was cut on a new weather and climate monitoring site in Russell County near the community of Eli, about five miles east of Jamestown. The station, which includes a 33-foot tower with instrumentation that measures air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation, and solar radiation, will help improve weather forecasting and increase lead times for severe weather warnings in the Lake Cumberland region. The land for the site along KY 1611 was donated by Russell County farmer John Adams. Helen Richards, 90, Russell County, KY (1933-2023) Helen Holt Richards, of the Blair School House Community in Russell County, KY, passed away on June 6, 2023 at 90 years of age. Born at home on April 29, 1933, in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late Estus and Rosa Selby Holt. She was a faithful member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. She worked most of her life, retiring at the age of 80. Over the years, she spent 32 years as a factory worker at Russell Sportswear and then 20 years as a handicapped bus aide. But her #1 job for 68 years was being a helpmate and taking care of her husband, Thelbert. She was also a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
