Kentucky Color: In a Butterfly Bush??? By Billy Joe Fudge Back in October my neighbors Kookie and Linda Harris summoned me up to their house to see the Hickory nuts growing in their Butterfly bush. Nooo, I will have to take that back right now. They, like me and many others, had been observing the frenzied squirrels harvesting and hiding the nuts everywhere, including the yard grass, landscaping, flowerpots, and on both front porches and patios! But finding them hanging in Butterfly bushes was a new "storage technique" for me. As the late Ed Waggener would often quote the late Coy Downey, "that ought to be in the 'World Book of Guinnesses'!"
