Lane closures begin next week on LBN in Adair Co. From Amber Hale The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that lanes closures are set to beginning next week on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway in Adair County as crews perform bridge deck restorations. Beginning Tuesday, September 6, 2022, the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway will be reduced to one lane - both east and west bound - on the Russell Creek Bridge (mile point 50.06). In addition, lane widths will be reduced to 13 feet and the speed limit will be lowered to 60 mph through the work zone. Work is expected to be completed Oct. 6. The duration of work may be adjusted for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays. (yet) From Chryslee Sherrill Deputy Director at Adair County 911 As of right now, Adair County 911 does not have the capability to receive any messages from someone texting 911 or our local number. However, our dispatchers have been training on a new program called "RapidDeploy". This program is another way for us to determine your location, but it also includes a text and video feature. Once our dispatchers are thoroughly trained in these features, we will update the public on how these services can be beneficial to them. Kentucky Observes Overdose Awareness Day From Morgan Hall Frankfort, KY - Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on Aug. 31 each year to raise awareness of drug overdoses, to reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths and to acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends as they remember those who have died or have a permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose. "Today and every day, the commonwealth mourns the Kentuckians who lives were gone too soon from an overdose," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "The road to recovery from addiction is one of the hardest journeys any human may travel. Senior Community Health Fair Sept 22 From Stacey Biggs T.J. Regional Health will be hosting a Senior Health Fair on from 7amCT to 11amCT on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at the Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse located at 1214 South Green Street in Glasgow. The senior health fair is free for community members age 60 and older and will include a Lipid Panel that includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose. Other screenings include bone density, height and weight, and blood pressure checks. KYTC offers $2,500 reward to curb copper wire theft From Naitore Djigbenou Louisville, KY - A recent string of copper metal thefts in Louisville has left more than 500 poles dark on interstates and state officials are calling on the public to help catch the culprits and prevent future theft. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is offering a $2,500 reward for information that will help lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the theft. ACHS staff recognized for Years of Service As part of the opening day of school activities on August 10, 2022, ACHS Principal Chad Parnell presented each staff member with a service pin indicating their years of experience. Ninety-one staff members were able to be recognized thanks to a generous donation from WAIN Radio. Pins recognize staff with one, five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, twenty-seven (eligible for retirement), thirty, and thirty-five years. When combined with actual years of experience, the ACHS staff has 1,230 years of experience with an average of 13.5 years of experience. Mr. Parnell said, "I am very thankful to WAIN Radio for helping me make this idea a reality. While it's a very small token of appreciation, I am happy to see everyone proudly wearing their pins." Pins will continue to be awarded at the end of the school year now that everyone has received their first pin.
