Letter: Signage Question

Jeffery Williams writes:
Is there any type of law or ordinance about putting out and taking up election signs? I know I've seen some from candidates from the Spring election that are still along the roadways cluttering up the side of the roads. And I've already begun to see several for the fall election. I know larger cities have laws that only allow a certain timeframe for them to be posted.
Thanks for writing. We're checking on local ordinances. Here's a link to some information about state regulations: KYTC: Signs are restricted on right of way

Three area schools awarded $5k each from T.J. Regional Health

From Stacey Biggs

Congratulations to Adair County Elementary School, Austin Tracy Elementary School and Glasgow Preschool Academy on being chosen for T.J. Regional Health's "12 Months of T.J. Adopt a School" giveaway. T.J. Regional Health received dozens of heartfelt nominations about each of these schools, and awarded $5,000 in unrestricted funds for the schools to use wherever the money is needed the most.

Sommer Brown, Principal at Adair County Elementary stated, "This is so exciting! We teach the importance of sharing with those who are less fortunate and have decided to use half of the money as a gift to our partner school that was damaged in the recent floods in Eastern Kentucky."

According to Neil Thornbury, CEO of T.J. Regional Health, this is just one way that the organization is saying "thank you" to our communities through the 12 Months of T.J. initiative. "Over the past two and a half years, the support for T.J. Regional Health from the communities we serve has been nothing short of amazing. While we are always very involved in the community, we wanted to find ways to go above and beyond by doing a variety of activities to support local families, charities, partner organizations, students, schools, healthcare workers and more."

Cousins on my mind

By Linda Waggener

Dust boiled behind 50s Chevys, Fords and Chryslers rolling down the crooked, creek-graveled lane to the weathered, two-story farmhouse where my Grandmother Addie Turner Leftwich presided over a huge Sunday dinner every seventh day.

That rolling farm on the banks of the South Fork of The Little Barren River, off the Glasgow Road in Metcalfe County, KY was where cousins blasted onto the scene every Sunday afternoon.
