KY General Fund and Road Fund Receipts for July 2022

From John Hicks/Greg Harkenrider

Frankfort, KY - State Budget Director John Hicks announced on Wednesday Kentucky's General Fund receipts for July, the first month of Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23), totaled $1,077.1 million, a 9.7 percent increase compared to July 2021 receipts. This is the fifth consecutive month, and tenth out of the last 11 months, in which collections have exceeded $1 billion. The $95.6 million increase in revenues was concentrated in the sales and gross receipts and the individual income tax. The major business taxes and miscellaneous taxes both declined compared to last July.

Due to the revenue surplus in FY22, the official revenue estimate for FY23 is 6.4 percent lower than the FY22 actual receipts. Receipts can decline 7.6 percent over the rest of the fiscal year and still meet the revenue estimate.

Columbia Christian thanks donors for flood victims

Columbia Christian Church would like to thank the many people who made donations for the flood victims in eastern Kentucky. Richard Phelps, Dennis Loy and Trent Miller delivered everything Monday, August 8, 2022 to Jackson, Kentucky.

It took a week to find the right contacts and get organized to get the donations delivered.

There were no direct ties so Phelps contacted a former funeral director he'd known for 45 years, Judge Frank Allen Fletcher, and asked him who they needed to bring donations to. He said Judge Fletcher made some calls and connected them with Rev. Bobby Holland, pastor, at First Church of God in Jackson, KY which appeared to be the epicenter of help in that county.

The pastor told us, "We've been going for eleven days, with no end in sight."

CU, TRH partner to help nursing students

By Gerard Flanagan

Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University's School of Nursing and Taylor Regional Hospital have formed a partnership to provide aid to prospective nursing students and nurses who are currently in the workforce.

"It is a real honor to partner with this fine university," Joseph G. Hugar, president and chief executive officer at Taylor Regional Hospital, said. "The Campbellsville University School of Nursing is one of the best programs in the state. Our Medical Center, Taylor County and the entire Commonwealth are fortunate to have such a robust nursing program offering seven different tracks from beginning nursing careers to advanced nursing leadership," he said.

According to Dr. Michele Dickens, dean of the Campbellsville University School of Nursing, undergraduate nursing students are eligible to receive scholarships from Taylor Regional Hospital if they agree to work for Taylor Regional upon graduation for a period of time depending on the amount of tuition received.

Registered nurses who currently work for Taylor Regional Hospital have an opportunity to further their education by being eligible for a 10% reduction in tuition for both the online RN to BSN and online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs at Campbellsville University.
