Kentucky Proud invites Kentuckians to local farmers' markets

From Kirk Hilbrecht

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky Proud, the state's official agricultural marketing program, invites all Kentuckians to meet "where the best of Kentucky comes together" at Kentucky's farmers' markets.

"Summertime in Kentucky means farmers' markets are in full swing across the state," said Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture Dr. Ryan Quarles. "Consumers want the freshest and healthiest foods available and that's exactly what you can find at any of 3,000 vendors in the 170 farmers' markets throughout 112 Kentucky counties. Farmer's markets truly are 'where the best of Kentucky comes together.'"

Kentucky farmers' markets not only bring consumers the freshest foods available, they also connect the consumer with the farmers who grow and raise their food. Farm-fresh produce, meats, eggs, and much more is available at Kentucky Proud farmers' markets across the commonwealth.

Family business history of Don Franklin Ford

The 2022 Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year, Don Franklin Ford, was introduced by grandson of the founder, Eddie Franklin, Jr., who said, "We consider our dealerships a team and we all work together to provide our customers with the best service around."

By Eddie Franklin, Jr.

My grandparents, Don and Barbara Franklin, started this business in 1968 as Don's Auto Sales. He went on to buy the Ford dealership from the Flowers family in 1981.

The Don Franklin Auto group now has expanded to 24 rooftop dealerships along with body shops, parts and service centers and reconditioning centers. First and foremost, we have God to thank for these blessings that we've enjoyed. We also have the city of Columbia and Adair County to thank for supporting us for 54 years now.

Carol Perkins: Father's Day

Previous Column: A Playmate for Carol

By Carol Perkins

As Father's Day approaches, we naturally think of our own. Those who have passed away are forever in our hearts. My dad died of a heart attack in 1977 at the age of sixty-two. At the time, I didn't appreciate how young he was. Only when I reached that age did I grasp how short his life was. I have so many memories, of course, but I can't help but think about what he has missed. Of his seven grandchildren, he lived to see two of them: my children, Carla and Jon. Carla has memories, but Jon was only four.

My dad would have embraced the computer age. He was a technical man and knew the workings of a TV from console to picture tubes. Back then, TVs were connectors and tubes. He was a TV repairman and sold television sets. He installed the first cable tower in Edmonton. When I made the mistake of asking him how a TV worked, he went into detail and not one word did I understand.

I often think of his music.
