Kentucky Color: Yes, War is Hell

By Billy Joe Fudge
Yes,
War is hell,
A necessary hell at times.
Necessary because,
Liberty is worth defending
Through hell
And till death,
For,
It is, obligatory.

No,
War is not evil,
For only oppressors
Who wage war are evil.
Defenders of liberty
Do not wage war,
For,
They are contenders
Against evil.
Yes,
Liberty’s defenders
Kill and are killed,
Yet,
They live forever
In the hearts
Of those in
Whom,
Freedom dwells.

No,
Oppressors don’t kill,
They murder.
Oppressors murder
And die even while standing.
Death is a sure
And permanent torture
Of a,
Perpetual purgatory.

Additional hearsay story of the Columbia KY bank robbery

By Mark Ferguson

It was said that the James gang had intended to rob the bank in Somerset KY, but when they got there, it was opening day of duck season (I think is was turkey season myself) and everyone was walking around with their shotguns on either the 12th or the 29th of April 1872.

But it also could have been a match day where people would compete for being the best shot (this was told to me as a thing by my grandfather who said it was common to hang your firearm by the strap and not take it off until pull or throw was called and the target was in the air. So "turkey Shoots" go back pretty far and exhibitions not limited to Annie Oakley ey al.
