Lena Cordelia Forrest Brockman, 91, Adair County, KY (1930-2021) Lena Cordelia Forrest Brockman, 91, of Columbia, Kentucky, died Thursday, December 23, 2021 at her residence. She was born September 3, 1930, in Taylor County, Kentucky to the late Alfred Lee and Maggie Belle Leonard Forrest. She was a member of Knifley Christian Church. She was a retired educator in the Adair County School System. She retired from Knifley Grade Center where she spent the majority of her 32 year career. She began teaching in a one room school in Taylor County where she met her husband, William Aldus Brockman, whom she wed on December 22, 1950. Their marriage lasted 64 years until his death in March 2015. He steps into the hallway about thirty feet from me and I begin. "Let's pretend it's Christmas Day, and we just landed in LA to board a ship to Hawaii." "I'm liking this so far," he said, "but why Christmas Day?" Do I have to explain this pretend story? "No one flies on Christmas Day." "Got it. Ok, go ahead." "We board the ship with our vaccination cards and our masks," I said, visualizing going up the gangplank and standing in line for the traditional boarding picture, only this time there will be no line and I won't look fat. Plan safe rides this holiday season 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' continues through New Year's Day By Erin G. Eggen Frankfort, KY -. (Dec. 21, 2021) - To keep Kentucky roadways as safe as possible through the holidays, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's (KYTC) Office of Highway Safety is joining the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and law enforcement nationwide in the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign Dec. 15, 2021 through Jan. 1, 2022. "It's been a tough year for all Kentuckians and I want us to have a great Christmas and New Year," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "However, I'm asking you to please celebrate safely. Avoid unnecessary travel, limit gatherings and use precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while with anyone from outside of your household. Second, please get home safely. Drive sober or plan a safe ride home with someone else to protect yourself and everyone on the road." According to NHTSA, impaired driving-related crashes tend to increase during the holidays. "While our holiday celebrations may look a little different again this year, our message stays the same: Always plan for a sober ride home," said KYTC Secretary Jim Gray. "If you are under the influence of any substance and choose to get behind the wheel, you put everyone on the road in danger, including yourself."
