Steele named MSC Women's Basketball Player of the Week By Kyle Jackson Amerah Steele of the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team was named the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. Steele tallied a career-high 26 points in two wins last week against Georgetown (KY) and Interamericana (PR). The sophomore made three 3-pointers and hit 11-of-13 at the free throw line in her 26-point effort versus Georgetown. She also connected on 6-for-11 from the three-point range for 26 points against Interamericana. Jacqueline Coleman were joined Sunday by very special guests as they handed out shoes to Kentuckians displaced by the Dec. 10 storms that devastated parts of Western Kentucky. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor teamed up with University of Kentucky (UK) men's basketball coach John Calipari and Manny Ohonme, president and CEO of Samaritan's Feet, to pass out shoes to displaced Kentuckians staying at two Kentucky state resort parks. They were also joined by UK athletics director Mitch Barnhart and former men's basketball players Darius Miller and Jack Givens. "We are all neighbors in Kentucky," said Gov. Beshear. "We love one another and we look out for one another. And my commitment to the folks of Western Kentucky is, we won't be here just this week or this month, but we will be here every single day for however long it takes to rebuild every building and every life, to get everyone as close as we can to where they need to be." Basketball: LWC Women secure opening day win in Puerto Rico By Kyle Jackson Rincon, PR - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team opened their two-day trip in Puerto Rico in perfect fashion, winning 76-54 over Interamericana on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore guard Amerah Steele led the way once again for the Blue Raiders (7-6) with her second consecutive 26-point game while freshman guard Irye Gomez finished the game with a career-high 11 points. Bree Glover dominated the glass collecting eight rebounds while adding eight points. As a team, the Blue Raiders shot 27 of 75 for 36 percent from the floor, 13 of 33 from beyond the arc for 39.4 percent, and 9 of 14 from the free throw line for 64.3 percent in the game while also outrebounding the hosts 52-39.
