Letter: CPD Promotions

By John G Waddell

I would like to commend CPD and the City of Columbia for recognizing the officers that have taken responsibility for leading the Police Department and insuring community safety and protection for its citizens and businesses.

Everyone likes to believe they live in a safe and secure Town, County, and State. Through the media and public records the challenges to these perceptions show necessity in developing a progressive law enforcement program. Both the City of Columbia and Adair County are taxed with virtually every type of crime that can be imagined.

Prevention and commitment by dedicated law enforcement professionals working together is the only way to control drug related crimes and the advent of criminal gangs. Every citizen is responsible to get involved and support law enforcements efforts and "Crime Prevention Programs".

Carol Perkins: Knee Deep in Recovery

Previous Column: Old School Ways

By Carol Perkins

One month after knee replacement surgery and I am wondering if I'll ever be back to normal. However, as I told my physical therapist, I want to be "normal" as I was in my forties when I could kick up my heels and bounce up a set of stairs. He gave me the look that said, "How about we shoot for fifty." I'll take fifty.

For many years I have suffered with my right knee, avoiding the inevitable. I tried shots and more shots in the knee, which helped for several months at a time and for a few years until the knee was beyond help. I researched stem cell injections and decided to shell out the cost of four cruises (insurance didn't pay) and for a short while, I was able to move around more readily without much of a limp. However, for me, it wasn't the answer. I do know it works for others, but my knee was too far gone.

I made up my mind to schedule surgery in July, giving me time to complete all my flower projects, take a trip to the beach, a trip to Texas, and clean my house! Naively, I looked forward to this procedure and never anticipated the recovery process.

Adair County students must wear masks

...We beg you to not let the mask issue divide our schools and our community like it has in some places across our state and our country. Let's find some common ground...

By Dr. Pamela Stephens
Adair County Public Schools Superintendent

Adair County School students, parents and staff - Over the past 72 hours there have been a lot of decisions made. Some of these decisions were made locally by our board and our central office administration while others were made in Frankfort. The Adair County Board of Education and the staff of Adair County schools are committed to Adair County students, their families, the community and the decisions we make will always be based on what we feel is best for everyone, especially our students. We take every piece of feedback into consideration and every piece plays a role in our decision-making process.

The Kentucky Board of Education voted unanimously to require masks for this school year. This completely takes the mask decision out of our school boards hands.

Letter: LCDHD

ray4burn writes:
There are 10 counties, not just 6 as you made note of in the lchd news.

Thanks for writing. You're correct that the LCDHD covers 10 counties. We only compared vaccination rates for Adair and surrounding counties in yesterday's article, because much less of our readership comes from Clinton, McCreary, Pulaski, and Wayne counties. However, you can always find all the data that LCDHD publishes at www.lcdhd.org.
