TheatreFest! announces return to in-person (reduced seating) theatre

By Jeremy Cloyd

TheatreFest! the Summer Theatre at Lindsey Wilson College, is gearing up for its return to live theatre! The ninth season of TheatreFest! will include two major productions and its fourth summer of IMAGINE! Youth Theatre, the summer camp that has become a staple of the summer months on the LWC campus.

This summer's lineup includes the touching and hilarious Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, the beautifully written Love Letters by A.R. Gurney, and a special showcase by the IMAGINE! Youth Theatre students.

TheatreFest! may be returning to in-person performances, but things will be slightly different than in years past. V.P. Henry Auditorium, where TheatreFest! performs, will have a reduced seating capacity to allow for social distancing. This capacity only allows for around 50 audience members each night. There will also be a mask requirement to attend productions this summer as an added layer of safety.

"We are thrilled to get back to doing what we know best," says Robert Brock, Artistic Director of TheatreFest! "The past year was challenging for theatre across the country, but we are ready and prepared to spend the summer creating theatre with and for this region."

History Monday: Our Collected History

Update 4/8/2021: The opening day has been pushed back to April 19, 2021.
See: Genealogy and History Research Center Update

By Mike Watson

Monday, April 12, 2021, will be a tremendous day in Columbia and Adair County. A long awaited event will quietly blossom at 307 Greensburg Street. The new addition, adjacent to the Adair County Public Library will quietly open to the public. The Adair County Genealogy and History Research Center, long planned and recently completed, will open at 9amCT on that day.

The Adair County Public Library's research section has been a cornerstone in local research since the 1980s, developed originally by the original Dean of our department, Mrs. Randy Hood Flowers. From a single filing cabinet, a single book shelf, a small work table, and an ancient microfilm reader, this section of the library grew, and grew.

Researchers have visited from nearly every state in the nation and several foreign countries. Our records collections have grown by leaps and bounds in the past forty years. Books, professional articles, newspaper pieces, and many personal research projects have been created from this collection, utilized by literally thousands of researchers. And good things have always been said of the materials housed here.

Many collections have been added. Most importantly, the first major collection was the research of Mrs. Ruth Paull Burdette, premier historian and genealogist of Columbia and Adair County for decades.

By Sean Southard

Frankfort, KY - Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles applauded six Kentucky high school student-athletes involved in agriculture for being named the 2021 Kentucky High School Athletic Association-Kentucky Department of Agriculture Ag Athletes of the Year, including Annika Reed of Metcalfe County.

The 2021 Ag Athletes of the Year were named at a ceremony during the KHSAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen(R) State Basketball Tournament on April 2, 2021, at Rupp Arena in Lexington. Two $2,000 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships were awarded. The honorees are:
  • Outstanding Ag Athlete of the Year: Austin Randolph, Muhlenberg Co. ($2,000)
  • Outstanding Ag Athlete of the Year: Annika Reed, Metcalfe Co. ($2,000)
  • Cody Anderson, Owen County
  • Madyson Planck, Nicholas County
  • Charles Murphy, Fulton County
  • Lynne Tormoehlen, Washington County
The scholarships are supported by the "Ag Tag" Fund, which is financed by voluntary donations from Kentucky motorists when they buy or renew their farm vehicle license plates. Last year, Kentucky farmers donated nearly $612,000 to the Ag Tag Program. The scholarships are just one way the funds are used to support Kentucky's agriculture youth.
