CPD welcomes K-9 Cally to the force

By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO
Columbia Police Department

The Columbia Police Department would like to formally introduce the city's newest K9 Unit, Cally.

As many are aware, after losing our previous K9, Gunner, due to illness, Columbia Police were left without a K9 for road duty specific to the Columbia Police Department. In 2020, funds were secured by donation for a new animal. In September of last year, Handler Trevor Foster was sent to Milan, Tennessee, where he received Cally from trainer Jay Morris and The United States Police Canine Association.

Cally is a two-year-old yellow lab, specifically trained in drug detection. She and Officer Foster have already aided in several arrests and investigations in Columbia. They have also been instrumental in aiding other agencies in Adair and surrounding counties when a K9 Unit has been requested.

We look forward to many years of using Cally as she serves the city of Columbia and law enforcement.

The greatest potential for significant snow accumulations includes much of Central Kentucky, with some areas projected to receive up to eight inches of snow. The heaviest snowfall will take place in a period between 3 p.m. EST Monday through 1 a.m. EST Tuesday. Snowfall rates may exceed 1 inch per hour.

Sunday Weather Update: Winter storm on the way

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a winter storm system will bring two waves of wintry precipitation to the region tonight through Tuesday. There could be significant accumulations of snow, sleet and possibly freezing rain.

The heaviest precipitation is expected to occur Monday afternoon into Monday night, but there's a 30 percent chance of precipitation today, increasing to a 90 percent chance overnight.

Monday morning will bring a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 11am, probably changing over to snow by afternoon. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches will be possible by Monday night.

If you must travel over the next couple of days, be sure to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
