COVID-19 update: Saturday sees 13 more cases diagnosed

The Saturday evening total case count showed a ten-county district health department increase of 35 in one day, October 10, 2020: Adair has the largest spike in new cases at 13; Clinton: 6; Green: 3; Pulaski: 7; Russell: 1; Taylor: 4; and, Wayne: 1. Adair also had one death from COVID-19 reported yesterday.

Today’s new cases diagnosed include:
Adair: A 33-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 63-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 63-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 73-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 78-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 24-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 61-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 60-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 23-year-old male who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 35-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 37-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 54-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic
Adair: A 65-year-old female who is self-isolated, still symptomatic

As of Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Columbia and Adair County were spiking in cases and labeled in the red zone as a Coronavirus critical hotspot. An unverified word on social media indicated that the spike in cases happened after a church held crowded revival meetings resulting in multiple people becoming infected with the virus. The Lake Cumberland District Health Department ten counties are *Adair, Russell, Green, Taylor, Casey, Pulaski, *McCreary, Cumberland, *Clinton and Cumberland ( * = red county).

SkyBridge in Gatlinburg, TN on the edge of The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, is 680 ft long and 140 ft high at the center. To access the SkyBridge you buy an admission ticket (prepare to spend around $20 per adult, $15 for children) at the SkyLift Park ticket window and then ride the yellow SkyLift chair to the top of the mountain where you'll begin your SkyBridge walk.

Russell County will hold Trunk or Treat on Halloween

The cities governments in both Russell Springs and Jamestown have announced the plan to have Trunk or Treat in each town in Russell County, KY on Halloween evening between the hours of 5 and 7pmCT.

Mayor Eddie Thomas of Jamestown and Mayor Nick Shearer of Russell Springs asked that everyone support good health by remembering to social distance and encourage masks.

J.O.Y Ministries Update and how you can help

August and September were very busy months in the shelter. We had very few nights it wasn't in use. People are always asking how can we help with the shelter.

An example of the service and the agencies working together:

We have had a special visitor the last couple of weeks in the shelter, for privacy and safety concerns they will remain anonymous but thank you Adair County 911, law enforcement in our community, TJ Hospital Columbia, Adanta and all the individuals that have poured into this person. There are no words to express how much your love and concern has meant and they are safe now. May God richly bless you for your giving hearts.

Roy Lewis Stone, 66, Knob Lick, KY (1953-2020)

Roy Lewis Stone, 66, of Knob Lick, Kentucky passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2020.

Roy was born November 27, 1953 in the Randolph Community of Metcalfe County to Sam and Hazel Muncie Stone. He attended Metcalfe County High School and was a member of the graduation class of 1974.

After graduation Roy went to work at SEWS and retired from there. He was an excellent handyman and was very meticulous about his work. He will always be remembered for his laughter and quick wit.

Mattie Huddleston, 92, Cumberland County, KY (1928-2020)

Mattie Ella (Murphy) Huddleston, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at The Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 10 days.

She was born on Saturday, January 28, 1928, in Monroe County, Kentucky, the daughter of Virgil and Mary Bell (Fluty) Murphy. She was of Christian faith, a member of Red Banks United Methodist Church, and a homemaker.

COVID-19 virus takes one life in Adair Friday

Lake Cumberland District Health Department

COVID-19 took two lives Friday, October 9, 2020: a 77-year-old female from Adair who had been released as no longer contagious but succumbed to lasting complications from the disease; and, a 59-year-old male from Pulaski County.

Nine more new cases were Diagnosed and reported in Adair on Friday and 13 new cases in Taylor County.

Total case count increased by 49 in one day in the ten counties of the LCDHD:

Farmers Market on the Square Saturday, 10 Oct

Paul the bread man will be at the Farmers Market on the Square with Sourdough, multi-grain, banana nut, zucchini bread, cinnamon rolls and French bread today.

We will have mums and white sweet potatoes plus local honey and craft items - the market closes at the end of October so think ahead for winter and Christmas gifts. The Market is located at the corner of Merchant and Campbellsville Streets in Columbia, KY.
