Lee John Rogers, 55, of Nashville, Tennessee, died April 19, 2020. He is survived by his parents, Richard and Arlene Parker Rogers of Louisville.

Cremation has been chosen and a private burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Adair County.

ACMS SBDM Council Parent nominations

The Adair County Middle School SBDM Council Parent nominations will be open from April 30 through May 14, 2020. Nomination forms can be emailed or faxed to interested parents of ACMS students by contacting arrowspto@gmail.com or President of PTO-Aaron Labarge.

Forms can also be picked up at Adair County Middle School, 322 General John Adair Dr, Columbia, KY, from 9amCT to 3pmCT, or printed from the school web page.

The forms then are to be returned to Arrows PTO through fax, email, or by mailing to ACMS PTO, 322 General John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY 42728.

The SBDM Election will be held on May 19 2020, via Survey Monkey.

Four Blue Raiders named USA Archery All-American

Four Lindsey Wilson Archery student-athletes were named to the USA Archery All-American team, USA Archery Officials announced.

Due to the shortened season, the honors were calculated exclusively on results from the USA Archery Indoor Nationals. The All-American Team designates the top archers in the collegiate program each year. The team is composed of the top 25 percent of archers in each division and class that participated.

Courtney Blevins and Taylor Bell each earned the distinction in the Barebow discipline as Ethan Johnson and Austin Taylor picked up the honor in Compound. The award is the second of Bell's career.

Guy's idea of pest control is his cap. We were sitting on the patio the other day and a wasp joined us. My thought was to leave it alone, but Guy's idea was to attack it before it attacked him. When the wasp began to circle him, he took off his cap and swatted at it, left and right, knocking it toward me. "Watch it!" I yelled. "I don't want it on me." His reply was, "Better you than me!" A can of wasp spray sat nearby. "All that does is make them mad," he said as I eyed it.

Creatures own the outdoors and we borrow it, expecting cooperation. Bumblebees like certain flowers I have planted in the flower box, so why should I think they will stay away because I don't want them? Guy battled a bumblebee not long ago. While swatting it with his cap, it declared war. The two danced on the patio until Guy cornered it with spray and let the bee have it, dousing him all over. The bee limped, shook off the spray, and came at him again. In time Guy won, but not without doing the two-step. The porch belongs to us, but the outdoors belongs to them.

The other night the same raccoon that has visited for a year was too close to the house to suit me.

May 13 will be last day for school meals

The last day for meal delivery/pickup for Adair County Schools will be Wednesday, May 13, 2020, which will include meals through May 15, 2020.

This will end our meal service for the 2019-2020 school year.

Adair Public Library making plans for reopening

The Adair County Public Library has been closed to the public since March 18th and closed curbside services March 27th, 2020.

All staff have been working from home on various projects and taking continuing education classes while the library has been virtually providing online resources for patrons.

It has been very hard for us not to be serving our community face to face, especially in these difficult times.

Metcalfe School Board names Josh Hurt new Superintendent

Edmonton Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce

The Metcalfe County Board of Education named Josh Hurt as the next superintendent of Metcalfe County Schools. The unanimous vote came during the regularly scheduled board meeting. Hurt succeeds Dr. Benny Lile, who announced his pending retirement in November. Hurt's contract is effective July 1, 2020 and will run through June 30, 2024.

School board chair Joey Shive said, "While we were pleased with our applicant pool and interviews, Mr. Hurt brought an obvious degree of familiarity to the process. I know I speak for the entire board when I say we believe he is the right person to continue and build on the positive aspects of our schools."
