KY PSC clears road for electric vehicle charging stations

By Andrew Melnykovych

Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) ruled today that electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are not utilities and therefore should not be subject to regulation.

The ruling, contained in an order issued today, is intended to remove any ambiguity over the legal status of EV charging stations and pave the way for the deployment of more such stations in Kentucky. The PSC noted in the order that Kentucky has lagged behind neighboring states in the availability of public EV charging stations, with only 94 in the state thus far.

Today's order states that any EV charging station that purchases power from a regulated electric utility or generates its own power solely for the purpose of charging EVs is not subject to PSC jurisdiction.

The ruling hinged on whether EV charging stations are providing electric service to the public, which would make them fall under PSC jurisdiction. The PSC determined that EV charging stations are themselves consumers and end users of electricity.

Letter: Music should be lowered for funerals

Michele Hale writes:
I like music and having music at the Farmers Market is fine and dandy. However I think it's a bit disrespectful to be having it during a funeral across the street. They need to be told to lower the volume while a funeral is being conducted. I'll just leave this here. --Michele

FM2 open, what fruits and vegetables are you up for?

By Linda Waggener

Gardens are coming in and the Farmers Markets are up and running. This morning, Saturday, June 15, 2019, the Farmers Market on the Square (FM2), the largest in Adair County, will be open from 8amCT until noon or sold out at the corner of Merchant and Campbellsville Streets in Columbia.

I've tasted them before but never had the experience of preparing Nopales (Cactus Pads), which are ripe now and a few were gifted me along with fresh Cucumber and Zucchini. I did just as I was told and wore gloves to get them peeled - and just as I was told they could, the needles poked right through the gloves and into my fingers when I wasn't careful enough!

After a quick learning session, at last the fruit was peeled, rinsed and ready to thoroughly enjoy! Happy hunting through all the fruits and vegetables available now!
