Farmers Market will be in full swing Saturday

Farmers Market on the Square will have a variety of vegetables and fruits at the market Saturday June 1, the market is opened from 8amCt until 1pmCt.

Each week more vegetables and fruit will be arriving as it's that time of year, mark your calendar and stop by weekly to find great local grown produce and in a few weeks we will be opening on Wednesdays, and our time will be 10am-4pm, stay tuned for Wednesday opening day.

The vendors hope to see all of our great and loyal customers tomorrow.

NOTE: Lois Cunning reminds us that Hungry Kids Cafe will be closed tomorrow and next Saturday for vacation time.

Metcalfe Co. lands new cooperage, 126 jobs

Startup Pennington Stave and Cooperage to create 126 jobs in Metcalfe County.

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Matt Bevin today announced startup manufacturer Pennington Stave and Cooperage Corp. plans to establish a mill in the Edmonton-Metcalfe County Industrial Park with a $34.4 million-plus investment expected to created up to 126 full-time jobs.

PS&C selected a 38-acre site in the Edmonton-Metcalfe Industrial Park for the production of staves and barrels in service of the growing spirits and wine industries. The site includes a 30,000-square-foot spec building that will be finished and outfitted with equipment and technology to accommodate stave and heading production, timber seasoning and an on-site kiln for wood drying.

Letter: Learned a great deal at Fairplay Store

Comments re photo 83924 Rosenbaum Fairplay Store and Post Office

Many great memories come rushing back with this photograph of the Fairplay Store of Mr. Stanley Rosenbaum. Growing up on Earls' Ridge, just a little south of Fairplay, we were often at this store for necessities and more. More being neighbors sitting a while to talk over the events of the week, crops, cattle, and a little ancient history from time to time.

I well recall such notables as Uncle Tommy Samuell, Gillum Harvey, Joe McClister, Haskell Samuell, Garvin Spoon, Mackie Spoon, Bud Grider, our own uncle, Roy Bunch, Finis Albert Harvey, George Hill, Carl Turner, Bill Hadley, Ol Darnell, Dewey Turner, Oval Pettey, and of course Mr. Stanley R. I now realize I learned a great deal of history by paying attention to these men of my youth, and more, too.

Glasgow Highland Games kicks off Friday 31 May

The Glasgow Highland Games has announced their star-studded entertainment lineup for the 34th annual Glasgow Highland Games. The Games date this year is May 31, June 1-2, at the Barren River Lake State Resort Park, 1149 State Park Rd, Lucas, KY.

The entertainment is always a highlight of the three day event and goes all day, on two stages and is free with the gate admission. The lineup includes:
  • Colin Grant-Adams, folk singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist
  • Barrenheart
  • Father, Son and Friends
  • The Skip Cleavinger Trio

Alma Newton, 80, Cambpellsville, KY (1939-2019)

Alma loved her children and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much delight; she loved being outdoors where she could raise vegetables and flowers.

Alma Newton of Campbellsville, KY, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in Louisville. She was 80 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, officiated by Rev. Dannie Nelson and Rev. Bob Langlois. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 5pmET until 8pmET on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home.

Lorena Glover Workman, 89, Elk Horn, KY (1929-2019)

Lorena was a military wife who enjoyed nothing more than preparing lavish Holiday meals for family and a sparkling home environment.

Lorena Glover Workman passed away on May 24, 2019 in Orlando, Florida. She was 89 years old.

Services will be conducted for both Harold and Lorena at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY on Sunday, June 2 at 2pmET, with graveside service to follow at the Pine Grove Church cemetery, 454 Pine Grove Church Road, Elk Horn, KY.

Viewing and family visitation for both Harold and Lorena will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 5pmET until 7pmET.

Blinkhorn earns NAIA All-America Team honors

Callum Blinkhorn has been named to the NAIA Men's Golf All-America Team, NAIA officials announced on Thursday. Blinkhorn is one of 15 men to be named to the first team. Forty-five golfers are named to three different teams.

The All-America honor is the second straight for Blinkhorn, who earned third-team honors last season. During the 2018-19 season, Blinkhorn had the best single season in the program's history.

Saturday will be mostly sunny again, with a high near 82F. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
