Connie Rose, 68, Green County, KY (1950-2019)

Connie Rose of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on May 9, 2019 in Greensburg. She was 68 years, 11 months, and 5 days of age.

The funeral services will be conducted at 2pmCT Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Fry Cemetery. Bro Leslie Jewell will be officiating. Visitation is from 10amCT Sunday until time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Maurice Wright, Earl Lane Judd, Mike Bennett, Rick Davis, Chad Wade, Dennis Curry and Boyd Curry.

Shirley Forrest Jeffries, 81, Casey County, KY (1937-2019)

Shirley Forrest Jeffries, age 81, of Hustonville, KY passed away on Wednesday May 8, 2019 at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 10amCT/11amET Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bud Stidham officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-9 Monday and after 8 Tuesday. Burial will be in the Harden Cemetery in Taylor County.

Cleanup at Lake Cumberland is ahead of schedule

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has announced that recreation facilities affected by a pool of record at Lake Cumberland in February 2019 are reopening earlier than projected.

Corps officials at Lake Cumberland report that Fishing Creek Day Use Area opened May 2; Fishing Creek Campground is opening May 10; Waitsboro Boat Ramp opened March 29; and Waitsboro Campground is opening Memorial Day weekend. Kendall Boat Ramp on the Cumberland River below Wolf Creek Dam received temporary repairs and reopened May 3. Lakeview Boat Ramp also opened May 3.

"The entire staff engaged in clean up and repair work," said Michael Boles, Lake Cumberland resource manager. "The Corps also used contactors for shoreline cleanup."

Laymon Norris, 80, Columbia, KY (1938-2019)

Laymon worked at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman he loved hunting, fishing, ginseng hunting and dog trading.

Laymon Norris of Columbia died Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at his residence. He was 80 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday morning from 9amCT until the funeral hour at the funeral home.

Adventure Race Series Kicks Off June 29 at Dale Hollow Lake

Burkesville, KY - Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park will host the Unbridled Adventure Race Series kickoff event on Saturday, June 29.

Adventure races are multi-disciplinary events including some form of mountain biking, trekking/running and paddling. The races involve navigation over unmarked wilderness courses, so good navigation with a topographical map and compass are essential. All races are open to individuals and teams of two, three or four.

The series, held in partnership with 361 Adventures, consists of three adventure races. The Dale Hollow race is scheduled to last up to six hours and is the perfect race for beginners and anyone curious about learning more about adventure racing.

Tom Curry, 86, Campbellsville, KY (1932-2019)

Tom was a farmer; he spent his time tending his chickens and his garden. He loved fishing, frequenting yard sales and decorating for Christmas both inside his home and out.

Tom Curry of Campbellsville died on Wednesday, May 01, 2019. He was 86 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmET on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Ave., Campbellsville, KY, with Bro. Casey Baker officiating. Burial will follow in South Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Hodgenville, Kentucky

State General Fund and Road Fund receipts for April 2019

General Fund receipts rose 10.7 Percent
Road Fund receipts rose 8.0 Percent

Frankfort, KY - State Budget Director John Chilton reported today that General Fund receipts surged ahead 10.7 percent in April with revenues of $1,289.9 million. April's receipts compare favorably to the $1,165.3 million collected in April 2018. Through the first ten months of FY19, the General Fund has grown 4.8 percent. Receipts reached a new all-time peak in April, besting the previous record by $124.6 million.

The official General Fund revenue estimate for FY19 calls for revenue to grow 3.3 percent compared to FY18 actual receipts. After April's collections are considered, General Fund revenues could fall 4.2 percent for the remaining two months of the fiscal year and still meet the official estimate.

WKU Public Broadcasting announces student fellowship recipients

Bowling Green, KY - Western Kentucky University Public Broadcasting has announced the selection of five students to receive the inaugural Brinkley Student Employment Fellowships. The innovative fellowship program provides WKU students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) employment opportunities with WKU PBS and WKU Public Radio beginning in the fall of 2019.

The selected students are Morgan Douglas, Patrick Elias, Austin Kinder, Alex Simon and Brandon Woempner. They are members of the Kelly Autism Program's Circle of Support, a unit within the Suzanne Vitale Clinical Education Complex at WKU that assists university students on the autism spectrum.
