KSP lands murder indictment in 37-year-old cold case

By Sergeant Josh Lawson

Bowling Green, KY - On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, the Warren County Grand Jury indicted Samuel Little with one count of Murder in the death of Linda Sue Boards, whose body was discovered May 15, 1981 on a farm located in Smith's Grove, Kentucky.

In September of 2018, Post 3 Bowling Green was contacted by KSP Investigator Carolyn Nunn, Central Forensic Laboratory, in reference to a lead received via the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) regarding the Board murder case. (VICAP is a unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation that is responsible for the analysis of serial violent and sexual crimes.)

Nunn advised Post 3 Commander Captain Tim Adams that the VICAP database identified an individual who had committed crimes in California that matched the method in which Ms. Boards was murdered.

New Diageo distillery in Lebanon will add 30 jobs

By Nicole Burton/Jack Mazurak

Frankfort, KY - Diageo, a global producer of beverage alcohol, will locate a $130 million distillery in Lebanon creating 30 full-time jobs, Gov. Matt Bevin announced today.

To encourage the investment and job growth in the community, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) on Thursday preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives up to $2.5 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the agreement term through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.

Additionally, KEDFA approved Diageo for up to $1.5 million in tax incentives through the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act (KEIA). KEIA allows approved companies to recoup Kentucky sales and use tax on construction costs, building fixtures, equipment used in research and development and electronic processing.

How likely is a big earthquake in Kentucky?

By Thomas Novelly, Louisville Courier Journal

It's not if a massive earthquake will hit Kentucky but, rather, when.

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake early Wednesday morning in Decatur, Tennessee, was felt in Kentucky as far north as Bowling Green, Somerset and Dale Hollow Lake.

John Bobel, a public information officer for the division of emergency management in Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government, said the Tennesee earthquake should be a reality check.

Letter: Suggestion for Christmas Parade

James Roberts writes:
I know that the Christmas Parade for Columbia has already been rescheduled once because of bad weather. The weather outlook for this Saturday is going to be 80 percent chance of rain. My suggestion is to have it Sunday evening because a lot of these entries have generators that produce electricity that would be dangerous if it's raining and a lot of the floats don't need to get wet. Just my thought. Thanks, --James

Pension ruling hands victory to Beshear over Gov. Bevin

By Thomas Novelly, Louisville Courier-Journal

The Kentucky Supreme Court's ruling against the controversial pension reform bill handed a decisive victory to state Attorney General Andy Beshear. That victory comes at the expense of Republican Gov. Matt Bevin, who pushed for the law.

Beshear, a Democrat, has made fighting the pension law his main priority and has frequently advocated against it as he challenges Bevin for the governor's seat in 2019.

Carol Perkins: Christmas in the 1950's, part II

Missed the first part? Click here to read: Christmas in the 1950's, part I

By Carol Perkins

After Daddy cut the tree, placed it in a bucket of rocks, and positioned it in front of the double window in the living room, Mama, Henry (my brother) and I decorated it. Then Henry and I waited, night after night and day after day, for presents to appear under the tree.

I wrapped presents for my friends at school and placed them under the tree. We drew names at my grandmother's house, so those presents were there, but nothing with my name on it. Only Santa brought gifts and waiting was hard. Each night, my brother and I quietly talked across our twin beds about what we thought we might get. We had scanned the Sears Wishbook to do just that (wish) but Santa didn't send things through the mail.
