Letter: White Cash Market article brings back memories of Butch

Virginia Sparks Wonderling writes:
The article about White Cash market brought back fond memories of my sister, Butch Sparks McCormick. She started working at White Cash part-time when she was a senior in high school 1957, in the meat department. But, that is not how she got the name Butch! She had that name since when she was a little child. After graduation in 1958, she worked full time. She really loved working there, earning money, meeting people and getting to talk with them! Her experience there helped her to be among the first to be hired as cashier when the new Houchens came into town. --Virginia Sparks Wonderling

Sue Stivers: Memories of White Cash No. 2, Russell Springs

Sue Stivers writes:
I enjoyed reading the article about the history of the White Cash Markets. I remember the one on Main Street in Russell Springs. Pete Walker was the head man . . . there every day. I had the opportunity to work there during holidays and summers when I would be home from College. I appreciated Pete so very much for giving me a job. If I came home on a week-end, he would let me work on Saturday. It was fun working there and I appreciated Pete so very much. I wanted to call him Mr. Walker, but that was a no..no. He wanted me and everyone else to call him Pete. I also learned a lot from him about politics. --Sue Stivers
