International Education Week: It's a Small World After All

It's a Small World After All. That's what the organizations who put up the sign on the courthouse lawn want everyone to know.

Barry Loy introduced the sign at the official unveiling Monday November 13th 2017 with these words, "Many do not realize that 100 students from 39 countries attend Lindsey Wilson College. This interaction of cultures enriches Adair County and the students. Mary Anne and I saw a directional sign in Nantucket and we were reminded of the sign on the TV show MASH. We thought this concept would be perfect to showcase the countries represented at LWC. Quoting from a sign that I saw in a church lawn: no matter where you are from, we are glad you are our neighbor."

Comments re article 93934 Construction of the Tompkinsville East Bypass set to begin

Rickie Williams writes:
Will any one reading this live long enough to see a similar project around the East side of Columbia? - Rickie Williams
Rickie Williams: You've just pointed out the shame of Columbia's political leadership: This was the first, shortest, and lowest cost proposal to get traffic to from KY 55 N to, at first KY 80 and a bit later to the Cumberland Parkway. It should be the top priority now, many think. It's a bucket list item for me. - EW

Kenny Absher, 62, Adair County, KY (1955-2017)

He was a one-of-a-kind Adair Countian, who frequently voiced different, thought provoking and important viewpoints in local media. He was a native of Adair County, KY, but spent some time in Chicago in his early youth, an enrichment so many Adair Countians of his era shared. His provocative but polite ideas, written with respect for civil discourse - but delivered from rough drafts which left it to editors, word police and the more persnickety to put in the commas and stuff. He influenced the Adair County he returned to and loved in a very positive way. He will be missed.
