Oral Health: A Key Component for Kentuckians' Overall Health By Doug Hogan/Beth Fisher Frankfort, KY - As part of the 52 Weeks of Public Health campaign, the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) is honoring the Kentucky Oral Health Program in recognition of National Dental Hygiene Month. The Oral Health Program consists of 11 public health dental hygiene teams providing services in 28 Kentucky counties. These teams visit local schools to assess, clean and apply fluoride varnish and sealants to a child's molars. The fluoride varnish provides protectants for six months, and the sealants protect the chewing surface for the length of the sealant, which typically protects the surface of the teeth from decay. With a deficit of dental providers in some of Kentucky's rural communities, this program fulfills a vital need with a mission to refer every child to a local dentist. Redbuds of Pennsyltucky Yes folks, redbud trees have become the most popular nursery tree in these parts of Pennsyltucky. By J.R. "Plant Geek" Brower I remember them well from my 10 years in Kentucky. Redbud trees in the springtime are so beautiful, mixed in with the dogwoods and other forest greenery. Up here in Pennsyltucky, we have plenty of dogwoods, but redbud trees are somewhat rare to see in the woods. Still, you do see small clusters of redbuds occasionally along wooded highways and interstates. Having been downsized from the oil and gas industry last year, I am now a horticultural worker at a large greenhouse nursery called Trax Farms. Customers have been requesting redbud trees for their yards since I started working there in May. Vicky Pike: PAM TILLIS CONCERT starts at 7pmCT, 14 Oct 2017 Reminds us we had a time wrong in Downtown Days schedule. That's hugely appreciated. And she sends a reminder on a possible way to catch Momma Cat, a feral neighborhood cat who shows up for dinner with our cat, Blue. Victoria Pike writes: You have Pam Tillis at 5. Think that is at 7 pm. On the cat catching issue. You might try a fish net to catch her if you find her and can get close enough to drop it over her. It has a long handle. Jimmy Harmon usually keeps one or maybe a fisherman would bring you one by to have if she shows up again. That is how we caught Little Oscar, the pot bellied pig that came to visit a few years ago at the Pampered Angus Ranch.Comments re article 93316 Downtown Days 2017 Schedule of Events 2017-10-13 07:04:33 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
