Aster is the name of the little lavender flower Comments re photo 74913 Wildflowers of KY ID needed for lavender fall flower Two wrote to help us identify the little flower at the above link. Joyce Coomer was the first to write and suggest it was an Aster and said she had lots of white ones on her farm. Wendy Butler Burt has provided in depth information in her letter below: This is an aster -- plants of this genus are so similar and numerous (about 30 species of aster occur in Kentucky) that their exact species identification is extremely difficult. Herbal legends claim that Shakers used asters in a paste to improve their complexions and ancient Greeks put them to use as an antidote to snakebites. The aster/sunflower family is the second largest family of flowering plants in the world. --Wendy Butler Burt 2017-09-26 20:54:59 | Comments | Printable version
