It's hot out folks but don't let that keep you from coming to the Jim Blair Center and checking out the new Story Walk book, My Mouth is A Volcano! "StoryWalk(R)" first appeared on the square in Columbia as a feature that promotes family literacy plus fitness, presented by partners in health and education including the Adair County Public Library, Family Resource Center, WATCH Coalition and local businesses. Thanks to Rep. James Comer for help getting passport

A family vacation was saved only after Rep. Comer came to his rescue. Now, Columbia business leader says, 'James Comer will always have my support,' adding 'I think it is great to able share the story of a true public servant.'

By Mike Neal

I wanted to express my thoughts about what a fine Congressman we have in James Comer. After weeks of trying to obtain a passport from the office that we were sent to from the Houston area, I was having no luck and our trip was quickly approaching this Friday. Even though we were calling and emailing the office everyday it seemed that no one cared and everyday, someone took my number and said someone would return my call.

Late Wednesday night, acting out of seemingly hopeless desperation and knowing that our entire trip would have to be rescheduled, which would cost considerable amount of money and time, I reached out to James Comer. Immediately the congressman responded and within five minutes a young man from his Washington, DC was on the phone calling me.

KY Afield Outdoors: Plan fall hunting in the heat of summer

By Kevin Kelly

Frankfort, KY - Fall can seem like an eternity away when the heat index soars into the triple digits and air conditioners must work overtime to meet unrelenting demand.

The arrival of the new Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide from the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources provides a comforting reassurance that summer is marching closer to fall. The free guide ships to outlets that sell licenses and permits, but it also can be viewed and downloaded from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife's website at fw.ky.gov (PDF).

A valuable resource for anyone who plans to participate in fall hunting seasons, the annual publication lists season dates and summarizes rules and regulations for deer, elk, bear, turkey, small game, furbearers and other species. It also provides information about licensing and permit requirements, youth hunting, quota hunts, public lands hunting and much more.

A wonderful gift, keeping both physical and mental health

By Linda Waggener

Visited in passing with friends Dennis Reeves and Doug Sapp at the Columbia Post Office this morning, July 20, 2017, sharing reports of two men in recent news who are celebrating an upcoming 97th birthday, Mr. Joe Spires, and a 100th birthday celebration coming up this Sunday for Mr. Rollin Pyles. Both are fully able to get around on their own and both have sharp minds and storehouses of memories. Doug Sapp said something both Dennis Reeves and I agreed wholeheartedly with: it's wonderful when you can reach those ages and have been able to keep both your physical and mental health.

That's quite a gift! - LW

Jerry Pyles remembers happy visits to Barnett's Creek

Among other facets of ministry, he has a neighborhood walking ministry with about 100 households involved. Out of the 100 households only about 5 could afford or owned a Bible and that, I thought, was an impediment the good folks of South Central Kentucky might be able to remove.
