Wendy Butler Burt: Mystery plant also Sleeping Plant

More on the Partridge Pea - pretty and beneficial to quail

Wendy Butler Burt writes:
This is the common Partridge Pea (Chamaecrista fasciculata), aptly named because this legume is an important Winter food source for quail as well as other bird species and mammals. It's found in open meadows (often included in seed mixes used for conservation plantings), roadsides, and waste places. It's leaves are light sensitive and fold at night, giving rise to another of its common names, Sleeping Plant. --Wendy Butler Burt

Wildflowers of KY: Another mystery plant, while we're on a roll

2016-09-04 - Jones Chapel Cemetery, above Gradyville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
While we're on a roll, with almost instant identification - We'll send out a plea for help with identification of this plant, found in the fence around Jones Chapel Cemetery. We're waiving our general promise to search online for 15 minutes before letting our botanical betters have a go at it. The plant is very pleasant, but may not be beneficial, may even be harmful to agricultural enterprises. Whatever the case, if you care to lend a hand, send answers using the "Comment" link with this photo. - Ed & Linda

Billy Joe Fudge: Thinks mystery flower has tell-tale feature

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Although identifying plants of this nature is not my forte, I believe this is Partridge Pea. If I remember correctly the compound leaves when touched or stroked will respond by folding up a little. (See: Thigmotropism in Wikipedia) - Billy Joe Fudge
