William R. (Bill) Smith, Taylor Co., KY (1954-2016) Gunnery Sergeant Smith retired from active duty in the United States Marine Corps after 14 years of service. Herman Wood (H.W.) Roach, Adair County, KY (1926-2016) He was one of Adair County's most honored leaders.Mr. Roach was a graduate of Breeding High School. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II from 1944-1946, in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Roach was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a faithful member of Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church and served many years as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher. Crittenden Co. City Administrator arrested By Sherry H. Bray Kentucky State Police Headquarters, Public Affairs Branch Marion, KY - The United States Postal Inspector notified Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement/Special Investigations West Branch of suspected drug trafficking involving Mark Bryant, the Marion City Administrator. Detectives with KSP DE/SI West responded and interviewed various individuals including Bryant. The investigation revealed that while overseeing the Crittenden County Detention Center Work Release Program, Bryant was Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs to various inmates while on work release. Bryant was also defacing shipping labels on United States Postal Service packages to avoid detection of drug trafficking. Bryant was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center and charged with Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs, Promoting Contraband, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. All charges are Class D Felonies. Kentucky State Police DE/SI West continues to investigate. Mary Edna Blaydes, Adair Co., KY (1920-2016) Mrs. Blaydes was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1938. She also graduated from Lindsey Wilson College in 1940. She went on to graduate from Campbellsville College with a bachelor of arts degree in education. After teaching in a one-room school at Bull Run, she taught 3rd grade at Knifley Grade Center and retired from the Adair County School System after 24 years of service. She was a devoted and active member of the Columbia Union Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the choir for many years and was a member in the Presbyterian Women's group. She was also an avid gardener and active in the Daylight Homemakers group.
