Hunter Durham: prayers from Columbia Baptist Men's Class

By Hunter Durham

Although my family had never gone to Dr. Phil as a doctor, we had great love for him and his family. An example of the types of things he would do included when my mother was in the hospital in her last days with cancer, he gave me later a picture of her sitting up in the bed smiling. A touching moment.

The American Flag. Poetry by Tommy Melson

The American Flag
by Tommy Melson
I stand for you, all tattered in the breeze . . .
Paid for by honored souls, here and overseas . . .
These men and women make up the spine, on which I prevail . . .
With acts of bravery and compassion we know and the ones ghosts never tell . . .
Honor those souls here and remember the ones gone . . .
Because the reason we live in peace, is because the american soldier lives on . . .

Charles Marshburn: Ready to serve

Charles Marshburn writes:
It appears that my application for county bootlegger has received no action since I didn't list relatives in the county going back four generations! I had nobody in my family to leave the job to me in their will. I am now setting my sights on being appointed to the school board but meetings will need to be early in the morning to fit my schedule. I am waiting for some of those persons who actually run the county to notify me soon of my appointment. I am perhaps overly qualified, but I won't let that get in the way. I don't take orders very well, but I am very good at giving them. Respectfully to a point, - Charles Marshburn
Thanks. - You do understand the situation here. Now you, or someone of your inquisitive mind, must tell us who runs the county. A list of 10-25 oligarchs might be interesting. - EW

Thanks to Mike Watson for photo and memories

And thanks to Stephanie Rivas for reminding of photo. See Memories of Turner Place on Crocus

Linda Waggener writes:
Mike, thank you for sharing the photo and your memories of time spent at the old Turner place. You are right, it was an incredible structure and it held so much meaning that taught us about how life was at the time it was new. I would love to have been able to spend more time wandering through those rooms, imagining the lives of Joseph and Becky Turner and their twelve children. They got their exercise going in and out of other parts of the house to get to their kitchen! I loved Grace Turner and how she cared for Dewey's place. - Linda

Letter: Dr. Phil, his dad and his uncle pulled me through

Nancy Burton writes:
I would like to send my prayers for Dr. Phil also. He was my Doctor for so many years -- his Dad and Uncle pulled me through a very bad sickness several years ago and I will never forget them for that. I give my thanks to them and would like to say that I hope Dr. Phil makes a full recovery very soon.

He is one of the finest Doctors I have ever been to in my life. I will always look up to him and be grateful for all he's done for me.
