Blessing of the Animals, Saturday 3 October 2015

Phil Hanna writes, "Come celebrate the blessing of God's creatures! Bring your dogs, cat, hamsters, rabbits, birds, or fish to a special worship service done in the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Animals and Ecology."

Day and Date: Saturday October 3rd, 2015, from 9amCT to 11amCT.
Place: Lindsey Wilson College amphitheater next to the Cralle Student Union Building.
Parking in the Cranmer Dining Center parking lot, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY.

We ask that all pets be leashed, in cages, carriers, or otherwise under your control. Please, no aggressive or dangerous pets. Bring pictures of larger pets or animals, living or deceased, to share in an album and in the blessings in which we celebrate their presence in our lives.

Sarah Thomas graduates Law School

Sarah Sullivan Thomas, daughter of the late Tim Sullivan and Tami Branham (Dennis) of Burkesville, Kentucky, recently graduated from Florida Costal School of Law in Jacksonville, Florida.

Sarah was elected to be the 2015 Graduation Class Commencement Speaker for her class of 800 graduates. She served as Student Bar Association President in 2015 and is a four time National Moot Court Champion. Among her honors include the 2015 Student Bar Association Exemplary Service Award, the Florida Coastal Founders Award (selected by her class), Student Recognition Award (chosen by her class), Dean Outstanding Leadership Award, and Pro-Bono Honors, completing more than 175 hours.

Sarah is currently employed as an Assistant State Prosecutor to the 7th Circuit State Attorney, R.J. Larizza in Daytona and was sworn in as a new member of the Florida Bar September 24 by Judge Judith Davison.

Sarah is the granddaughter of Joe and Diane Strange of Burkesville and Marguerite Sullivan and the late Henry Sullivan of Edmonton. She and her husband Kurt live in Palm Coast, Florida.

Shannon Lynn Crew, 36, Liberty, KY (1979-2015)

He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the operator of Shannon's Auto Repair and a member of the Hustonville Baptist Church. His wife of 18 years, Bobbie Carrier Crew, survives. He leaves six direct living descendants

Shannon Lynn Crew of Liberty, KY passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY. He was 36 years old.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 5pm-8pmET, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville St, Liberty, KY. Funeral services are scheduled for 1pmET, Friday, October 2, 2015 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, 752 Campbellsville Street, Liberty, KY, with Bro. Jonathan Grizzell officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Contown Cemetery.

Rep. Whitfield will not seek reelection

U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield (R-KY-01) announced today he will not seek a 12th term in Congress.

"Representing the people of the 1st District for 21 years has been an honor," said Whitfield. "I will cherish forever the countless opportunities to work with them to nurture and strengthen the 35 counties comprising Kentucky's First District.

KY commercial vehicle screening system wins award

'KATS' project helps identify candidates for large truck inspections

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's innovative use of technology for screening large commercial trucks that pass through the Commonwealth has been accorded the 2015 President's Award for Research by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

The award-winning program is KATS - Kentucky Automated Truck Screening. It employs a license plate reader, U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)/ KYU number reader and scene camera technology to collect and process identifying information as a commercial vehicle enters a weigh station ramp.
