Mike Newton: Criticism of vandals too light

Personal commentary

Mike Newton writes:
I feel that he comments made regarding the vandalism of a monument area honoring those who served and those who died to protect our freedom, were too light. If these idiots are ever caught, make an example out of them, by allowing a Veteran to punish them as they see fit . . . ! I must be dreaming; our system, or the ACLU, or some other government funded group would only charge the Veteran with violating some idiot's rights. Nice thought though. - Mike Newton

Kentucky granted extension status under federal REAL ID Act

Kentucky driverís license all thatís needed for access to most federal buildings

By Chuck Wolfe

FRANKFORT, KY - (July 31, 2014) Ė The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has added Kentucky to a growing list of states and territories granted extensions of time for meeting requirements of the stringent new identification security law known as REAL ID Ė meaning a Kentucky driverís license is still sufficient for gaining access to the vast majority of federal buildings.

The extension runs through October 10, 2015, and is renewable. Without the extension, those with a Kentucky driverís license would have had to produce another form of identification, such as a birth certificate or U.S. passport, for access to some federal properties.

Civic pride should be enough to find vandals

Roger D Smith DMD writes:
Whoever did the vandalism to the veterans memorial are typical examples of the amoral atmosphere that exists in our country. I, too, lost friends in the war and saw many I did not know fail to show. This act has no excuse and I certainly hope that this will be solved. I don't think a reward is necessary. This falls under a pure act of civic pride to turn in or help discover these criminals. - Roger D Smith DMD
