ACHS Class of 2014 Senior Awards

It was a huge night of Celebration for a high achieving class. Awards recipients in complete article lists: Valedictorian, Salutorian, Top 10%, DAR, US Army, US Corps of Engineers, Principal's Challenge, Governors Scholars, Top ACT, College & Career Ready, Career Ready, College Ready, and Technology Literacy. For the College Ready, over $3 Million Dollars in Scholarships were awarded.

Last night during the annual Senior Awards ceremony held at the Adair County High School there was in excess of 3 million dollars of scholarships presented to the 2014 graduating class. While some of the scholarships were one time funds and others renewable for up to four years of study, they were all greatly appreciated.

Principal Troy Young was the Master of Ceremonies throughout the evening. A record number of seniors were recognized for a wide array of accomplishments not only scholarship recipients. Here is a quick peek at the winners.

Nelson Lee Buford, Burkesville, KY (1956-2014)

He was a native of Barren County, KY, and a resident of Cumberland County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Virgil and Ruth Grooms Buford. He leaves 1 direct living descendant. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Glasgow, KY, and enjoyed football and basketball.

22 KY cities receive national Main Street accreditation

Frankfort, KY - The National Main Street Center (NMSC) has announced that 22 Kentucky Main Street Program (KYMS) communities have achieved national accreditation, up from 17 in 2013. KYMS is administered by the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office (KHC), and the center is a division of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Traffic: Construction will affect Jamestown, Burkesville STs.

Waterline Construction Work will start at 9pmCT, Sunday, June 8, 2014. Detours will be set up. Watch for Boil Water Advisory to be issued

Stotts Construction Co., Inc. will be doing construction on Jamestown and Burkesville Streets on Sunday, June 8, 2014 starting around 9:30pmCT. They will have detours set up for traffic control. There will not be water service during this construction time. A boil water advisory will be issued. ACHS Site Council interviews for art, music, English positions

Adair County High School, 526 Indian Drive, Columbia, KY, will have a special called SBDM meeting on Monday June 9, 2014, at 4pmCT, in the library The purpose of the meeting is to interview for the art and music positions that are available at the high school.

Mrs. Ruth Hagan Fletcher, Cumberland Co., KY (1934-2014)

She was a native of Metcalfe County, KY, and a resident of Cumberland County at the time of her death. She was a member of a highly regarded family with deep roots in Cumberland, Metcalfe and Adair Counties of South Central Kentucky and elsewhere. She was the widow of the C.W. Fletcher. She leaves 9 direct living descendants. She was a member of the Chestnut Grove Christian Church and the White Hill Community Church. She was a seamstress for Bob Evans Manufacturing Corporation and a homemaker.

Funeral services for Ruth Hagan Fletcher will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 1pmCT, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Rev. Paul Patton and Bro. Gary Cash officiating. Burial will be in the White Hill Cemetery in Cumberland County near Breeding, KY. The family will receive friends after 2pmCT on Friday, June 6, 2014 until the funeral hour on Saturday.
