Poetry by Robert Stone: Undertones to rough
Undertones to rough
- a sonnet of revelation
When least expected, thoughts before unknown
upstartle mind with sharp epiphany
and undermine routine to now condone
revealed reality polyphony.
Familiar songs that soothe the aching heart
have undertones to rough unsettled views
and siren lures enough to pull apart
contentment, futureless with peace confuse.
New harmonies will never cease to come
to those who open selves to what can be
and fear not what is slightly out of plumb
awaiting righting by today's decree.
The old could not be more than past could see
where grasping loves that failed more loves set free.

2013-01-06 - Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Steles and unusal statuary mark the landscape in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, a carefully maintained cemetery as old as the nation just west of and overlooking Stanford, Lincoln County, KY. These steles, because of their shape, and pyramidal tops, are also obelisks. Permalink | Comments? |
