Safety in Our Schools: Message to parents and community

Precautions, safeguards in place following Connecticut tragedy
I expect that due to the media attention given to the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, many of our students will come to school this Monday morning with questions. Our counseling staff and our classroom teachers will be ready - ALAN W. REED

Books at Christmas

When I think of the presents of Christmases past, I mostly remember the books. Oh! There were the other presents such as the Lionel train set that ran on a figure-eight track. It was special. But there were always books. And they were always exciting.

News of Kentucky State Government

When the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund Board met in Frankfort, KY, Friday, the panel, chaired by Gov. Steve Beshear, handed out $5,586,102 for 14 agricultural diversification projects on Friday, December 14, 2012, there was this one especially noticeable:
$33,850 Chia Feasibility Study
Kentucky Specialty Grains LLC was approved for $33,850 in state funds to conduct a study on the market development and feasibility of processing chia for seed, oil, meal and flour.
Chia brings to mind, for many of us, an earlier age, the novelty "Chia Pet," which, as if by magic, grew "fur" of greenery. It was a staple of Tv sales people for years. It's still around, but the product line has expanded to include dogs, cats and more. And, while it's not the hot fad it once was, people still buy them.
