2012-11-04 - 1535 Bull Run Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Barbara Armitage.
Another Turkey Seeks Sanctuary at Tucker's Station Farms within Hours of CM's Announcement Our little flock is increasing! Wayne and I were working out at the high tunnel this afternoon when Pilgrim brought her new friend to visit. The girls seem to be quite curious - coming within an arms length of us. That's Pilgrim, on the right, the founder of the sanctuary. We have not yet learned the name of the newly arrived larger hen. The word is getting out that Tucker's Station is a safe place to live. If this keeps up you may all be eating chicken for Thanksgiving. - Barbara Armitage

Praises Barbara Armitage for gardening on past Labor Day

Writer herself harvested last of tomatoes on November 3, and still has flowers and herbs flourishing

Lois Cunningham writes:
Hurray for you. i have always found it a little crazy for people here in Adair County to abandon their gardens and their flowers on Labor Day. Being from the north where our flowers and gardens don't get going till mid June and are frost nipped by Labor day, I cherish every bloom and every vegetable until it is impossible to get by with not keeping them. Yesterday I picked the last of my tomatoes, but i still have a few flower pots in bloom and the herbs are still flourishing in their pots. I love that you continue to grow things till the last day you can. Keep it up. - Lois Cunningham

Poetry by Robert Stone: Guilty but of what? - a sonnet

Guilty but of what?
- a sonnet byRobert Stone: 4 November 2012 reflecting on "Deathtrap," a play by Ira Levin
Society expects our staying bound
by customs, laws, and expectations strong
but devious temptations sweetly sound
the seeming right of skillful scheming wrong.

Things done and things undone and things unthought
are categories filled with lengthy lists
but if we choose to learn, we can be taught
the forward straights avoiding tangling twists.

Uneasy grows the mind desiring ease
by hurrying conclusions to despair
but cunning crosses only serve to freeze
the heart and more completely to ensnare.

May be that someday most will cease to strut
and mark themselves as guilty but of what?

- Robert Stone, 4 November 2012

I often open myself up to criticisms when I stray too far off the farm, as they say. The farm for me is the forest and trees. It and they are very good friends of mine and we have a fairly good relationship. Occasionally however, I must pontificate about things which I am not the most qualified and this may be one of those times.
