Whitney Ford, ACHS junior; left; Brittany Rowe, ACHS senior, center; and Michelle Petty, ACHS instructional assistant, are racing the clock to get the Project Graduation mailing ready to go out to our local businesses and organizations who are always so willing to help monetarily and many that night as volunteers. Without their generosity and support there would be no Project Graduation. Project Graduation is designed to be the safe drug free and alcohol free celebration for our high school seniors, juniors and their guests. It is held immediately after commencement exercises on Friday night, May 18, 2012, at Adair County High School, 526 Indian Drive. All senior (and junior) parents and grandparents are invited to come join us and spend this memorable night with their graduate. - Ellen Zornes

Barbara Armitage; Thank to gallant Texans

Cowboy stopped traffic so Square Beautifiers could get truck with gardening supplies to work area

Barbara J Armitage writes:
While we're on the subject of downtown I'd like to thank the gentleman from Texas who was so kind this morning.

The ACGC ladies and I we're trying to unload bags of mulch for the gardens on the square and not a single vehicle would let me get through with the truck and trailer.

Then here comes this big black dually truck with Texas license plates. The cowboy stopped traffic and waved me through.

I guess Texas mamas are still raising their boys up right.

The ladies of the Adair County Garden Club thank you!

Barbara Armitage offers to do Safe Square law enforcement

Comments re article 51065 What will be done to make The Square safe place

Barbara J. Armitage writes:
Sure I'll take the job. I don't mind doing a job that no one else wants to do.

I once made my five year old daughter pick up trash for a mile as punishment for throwing an empty soda can out the car window. To this day she has never littered again.

- Barbara J Armitage
Thanks, Constable Barbara: I might get two items off my bucket list if you had that power: 1) To get one full night's sleep without being awakened by illegal noise, and 2) Cross in a Downtown Columbia Crosswalk without getting run over by a speeding car (or be able to enter traffic in a reasonable time on the Burkesville Street International Speedway). -EW

What will be done to make The Square safe place?

Maury E. Lewis writes:
I was working on the square this morning helping put mulch and fertilizer in the flower beds. I was standing on the corner trying to get over to the next flower bed with a bag of mulch and a heavy bucket of fertilizer in hand and five cars went flying past me with out stopping to let me cross. It is not a courtesy to let pedestrians walk across it is the law. YES, I was standing at a cross walk. What will it take to make things right on the square. To make it a safe place to walk? - Maury E Lewis
Maury: That's a good question. Maybe Adair County Constable Tim Bottoms could deputize the Garden Club. Wouldn't that be something? Deputy Constable Barbara with a Citation Book! Bet there wouldn't be a speeder or an illegal muffler in 20 miles of the Courthouse if that happened. Litterbugs would never get out from under the jail. -ED

Melewi has question about imagery on rooftop

Comments re photo 44560 Scenic Adair County KY The fairy tale cycle in the sky

Melewi writes:
I made the picture larger to 400% there is something on the first dormer with a white cross behind it or on it also. - Melewi
Interesting question: Roadside and public art, including the special genius of Ernie Curry, has always been controversial, but your question is part of what I find to be intriguing about it: Wondering what the symbolism is.
