In five years, Evan adds some moves to shooting skill

Grandparents Corner
Click on headline for three progress photos

By Granddad

Five years ago, in his debut at Diddle Arena, Evan showed he had an eye for shooting the basketball.

Now, five years later, in some pro-level games in Shelbyville, he's added jive steps and cat like moves to score even against briar patch defenses thrown up to thwart him.

Picture proof in the attached (family) album. Granddad. Ed Waggener

PS: Linda and I hope others will share news of their own amazing grandkids. We've no doubt the new generation will be world-changers - for the better. Send with "Let me tell you about MY grandkids," in the subject line, using the Comments Form with this story. -EW

Charles T. Marshburn sends link on egg price spike

Charles T. Marshburn, an unleashed Adair County Consumer Watchdog, at Gadberry, KY, sends this link to a story in Slash/food which purports to have the answer to reason for a recent spike in egg prices. To read it, click to: "Egg Prices Falsely Inflated", Says Grocers Group," by Jessie Cacciola, Posted Jan 12th 2011 at 4pm

This raises a question: Are any of the backyard chicken growers who raise chickens for eggs, as well as for chicken dinners. That may be one way to avoid the spiraling price. Share information by clicking on the Contact Form with this article.

Blue Jays picture by Sharon Whitehurst one of best

Maury Lewis loves Blue Jays. Wants to know how to minimize Starling visits

Maury Lewis writes:
This is one of the best pictures I have seen of the Blue Jay. Look at the color. I really like the Blue Jay and a lot of my feed is for them.

The jays at my house love the peanuts that are in the Garden Club bird feed that is being sold at Day and Day feed.

If somone can tell me how to get rid of the European Starling, let me know. They will eat half of one of the Garden Club suet balls in one sittting.Maury Lewis

Birds of Kentucky: Sunporch has been best addition to old house

Getting ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count, Febuary 18-21, 2011. Barbara Armitage shares a proven method for attracting nuthatches - Sue Stivers birds - to backyards, and, a tip on comfortable enjoyment of all birds once they come to your home by constructing a sunroom.

By Barbara Armitage

I think that the best thing that Wayne and I have done to this old house up at Tucker's Station was build our sunroom. We are able to watch the birds at eight feeders and two suet balls and they never even know that we are here.

This morning I have been watching a precious little Nuthatch (PHOTO) as he scurries head first down the maple tree hops over to the feeder for a seed and then back up the tree he goes to stash his bounty in the fork of the tree.

Carol Perkins idea of mental trash receptacle a great one

Sharon Whitehurst writes:
This is what happens in my rag-bag mind each night when I'd so like to fall asleep! The "things to do" list whirls round and round, past times, present concerns, future plans all tumble together.

I like the idea of a mental trash receptacle - as long as items put there are guaranteed to be 'lost and gone forever.' -Sharon Whitehurst
